Re: Coronavirus III
I only check IHSS for 3 reasons-
1. See if any of my friends in coaching got out or got fired
2. See the stupidity of people in the politics section
3. See if there's any news stories worthy of discussion here are posted. This is honestly where most of right wing propaganda or conspiracy theories or whatever Tee called them come from.

Teetime wrote:There was a swing of 8% from republicans to democratic votes in the 2018 Senate races,
That's some convoluted math. You must be a numbers guy. When thinking about the Senate, think Electoral College. It doesn't matter how many raw Democratic votes there are across the country. You only get to vote for your Senator in your state. Reps flipped four seats in 2018. Dems flipped 2.
Frankly, I think 6 flips in 33 races is alot for the Senate.... no matter which way they go. Incumbents die hard.

If you get elected once, there's a like 72% chance you'll be re-elected until you decide to stop running.BirdWatcher wrote:Incumbents die hard.

Re: Coronavirus III
When Kamala Harris runs again in 2022, even if she has all 40 million Californians voting for her, it still just makes her one Senator, with one vote.

For Friday the statewide positivity rate holding at 3.6%. Also today the Governor's office flatly denied that they are having any discussions on returning to Fall sports.

The additional mitigations have been lifted from Region 7 (Will and Kankakee Counties).
As far as I am concerned, there is no reason why the Gov's office should even be involved in the discussions, he is not an expert and only the experts should be involved in this process. He is probably telling the truth that no discussions are taking place because there is no need for them to take place with his office. Discussions should only involved IHSA, IDPH, and other entities that understand the health and athletic side of this decision.

As of Sunday 9/20/20 the statewide positivity rate is 3.5%. The Governor needs to reexamine his position on HS football. There's still time but we need to get to it soon.

They probably did.
Yesterday they called "a lid" (an end to the campaign's schedule for Joe) at 8:30am.

It would probably take Joe until 200 million are dead to be able to string together a complete paragraph of speech without completely losing where he is in the speech.Teetime wrote:dusty7 wrote:

Edit- it is amazing to me in this era of media oversaturation how many people who can't publicly speak run for president. Trump, Biden, George W...

Excess mortality using raw death counts:
Besides visualizing excess mortality as a percentage difference, we can also look at the raw death counts as shown here in this chart. The raw death counts help give us a sense of scale: for example, the US suffered more than 244,000 excess deaths between 1 March and 16 August, compared to 169,000 confirmed COVID-19 deaths during that period – a difference of 75,000 deaths.
So is that saying that we may have undercounted deaths by 75,000?

man, you can read into it anything you chose to. I just noticed that on Aug 23 the chart showed zero and assumed that was a good thing...i'm not too smart though...

I agree with everything you said there.
The way I read it, we are now close to back to having the same number of weekly deaths that we had before COVID-19 (with one caveat they mention about lagging data). During the duration of the pandemic's first wave we had 244,000 "excess deaths" meaning more that the average number of deaths over those exact same weeks from 2015 through 2019.
Good news that we are now back to average.
