IMO if they aren't a Conference champion they don't get in. OSU has lost 3 games off their schedule this year. One game they canceled (against Illinois) and two games were canceled on them (Maryland, TTUN). OSU is the only team in the Big Ten that has had 2 games canceled on them. They are also head and shoulders better than any other team in the Conference. Coincidence?

If that game was played OSU would be favored by 10-11 points.

That would be a great idea. Play A&M and end all the speculation about how good OSU really is.

I think there is a ZERO chance that OSU would take that game. They would much rather get voted in by the B1G athletic directors.

The OSU team would take that game in a minute. They are hungry and ready to show the country how good they are. The Conference won't let them.
Also the OSU/TTUN game has been replaced on their time slot by Utah/Colorado. Ratings gold!

There is no way in hell OSU agrees to that game in College Station.

Big 10 teams won't travel to MAC schools to play. You really think OSU's risking a chance at the playoffs to travel to Texas?

The last time OSU played a non conference D1 school at a non neutral site was 2016 when they went to Oklahoma.

The next time it will happen? 2023 when they go to Sally N D.

They were supposed to go to Oregon this year before Covid stepped in. Preseason their schedule was ranked 14th toughest in the country by one publication. The Big10 sucked more than many thought and they lost their non conference games including Oregon.
Going back to your earlier question OSU would rather not go in to the playoffs as the #4 seed and play Alabama. That figures to be a sledgehammer type game and the Bucks would prefer playing ND or Clemson. A win against the #5 team in the country could boost them to #3. They feel pretty good about beating A&M.

I didn't even think to look at this year's schedule. Good point. I guess once every 4 years is enough. Smile

The conference would rather see them get blasted by Bama than potentially lose to A&M in the regular season. All bout dem benjamins...

They've got Oregon next year at the Horseshoe and ND the next two years. 2027-2028 they play Alabama. 2024 they play Washington. 2025 both Washington and Texas.

I'm probably biased as my username would indicate but I don't know how you put Ohio St. in the top four when they've played five games.  Especially when, with the possible exception of Indiana, those five games haven't even been against good competition.  Now, that isn't their fault, obviously, but it is what it is.

After next weekend I would argue that Coastal Carolina has a more difficult schedule than OSU. If they win, they would have beaten 2 ranked teams in BYU and the Ragin Cagins.  Also, they would be 11-0, more wins than any team in the playoff.

I have no doubt that they would be favored but I think a team that has played 12 games deserves more consideration than a team that has played 12 games. This is assuming neither of Coastal's next to games get canceled and OSU actually plays in the B1G Championship. I know OSU is in a bad spot that is not their fault (unless you blame COVID spead within the program on the program) but it's like allowing an IHSA team that went 4-0 and other games canceled for no fault of their own (see Stillman Valley when they forfeited because a student died on their way to the game and missed the playoffs) getting in over teams that played 9 games.

The decision to put Ohio St. in the CFB may be partially based upon their play on the field but I bet a majority of the decision is based upon money. Take OSU out of the picture and it is an ACC/SEC Challenge.

Yes OSU has a large and loyal fan base. They help fill stadiums and during a Pandemic with no fans in the stadium there will be higher TV ratings than there would be if they weren't playing.

I just think it's wrong and a really bad look that OSU is being allowed into the Big10 Championship game. We make the rules, then change them. I get it's a pandemic, but at what point do we say, 'everyone is dealing with stuff'. They've played 5 games and none of them were against anyone any good. Indiana is the only one close. And that was a very competitive game. I just think it's a really bad look and unfair to the other teams in the league. The Big10 realizes they screwed up by not letting their teams start earlier, so in order to get the national notoriety they want, they change the rules so they're 'big dog' can get what they want.

I disagree on a couple of points. The point on Indiana being the only opponent close to being any good. They're ranked #8 in the country, that's more than close. OSU has had 2 teams cancel on them. They should be left out because two teams canceled on them? As I mentioned previously they were the only team in the Conference to have two teams cancel on them. Yes it's true that OSU is the big dog in Big 10 football and the Big 10 is a lot better off for it financially.

We are on different sides of this and that's okay. I totally hear and see where you're coming from. Didn't OSU cancel on Illinois though? Or were there two other teams that canceled on them? I can't keep them all straight.

Yep, OSU had Maryland and Michigan cancel on them an they canceled on Illinois. It's all good, good people aren't always going to agree on things. It's 2020 an hopefully we never have another year like this again.

I'd agree on the 2020 thing...I'll say this about the Big10 and all of football for that matter...it's SAVED me this fall. As a teacher and football coach, I'm fighting mentally every week. Knowing I can watch games and even have this debate has gotten me to this point and I'd wager I'm not alone.

Whole-heartedly agree! Now, we got to play here in Iowa and are playing basketball currently...but even then it's different. We had maybe 100 people in our gym (2000) capacity for our varsity game the other night. Anyway, it is nice getting to watch college football.

Totally agree, having some football to watch on Saturday and spending some time in the woods this Fall has certainly helped me get through these tough times.

I am with you 100% here. If it wasn't for the sports we currently have and Draftkings Sportsbook (which I have done very well), I would not be a pleasant person to be around. On top of a crazy toddler running around and a 3 month old infant (who is already 17 lbs), and getting my masters, I would not only be a crazy person, but a crazy drunk person. Also, the fact that we are still in person in school does make it easier.

I just came across this. From December 5-11 the University of Michigan administered 2,798 tests on athletes, coaches an staff. They had 13 positive cases. 9 athletes an 4 staff. If this is accurate and I have no reason to doubt it, it's clear that they just didn't want to play OSU.

What are the figures from OSU the week prior to the Illinois game?

I don't know and couldn't find anything when doing a search. I'm going to check with sources who might know. IIRC OSU didn't cancel until Friday evening, waiting as long as they possibly could for their numbers to improve. I know for certain OSU wasn't ducking Illinois. Laughing

Had they already traveled to Chambana? I tried to look that up, but didn't find it. Idk what Big 10 schools do for trips like that.
