Re: Chicago White Sox
If Renteria isn't fired, the rest doesn't matter, because he will screw it up. If your team is winning 70 games, no ones cares about the manager, but if the games matter, you can't have him.
He made too many questionable moves to list them allhere, but a great example is just the last week. He brings in Rodon during a key moment in the Cubs series. Every single person watching the game, including the Sox announcers, questioned it as it was happening. Rodon failed, and after the game Renteria said he wanted to see how it would go..... Yesterday, in a very similar situation less than a week later, he does the same thing again with Rodon, and he failed miserably again (shocking!).

I felt bad when the Cubs fired him and then Maddon swooped in and won a World Series. But, after the way the last 2 weeks of the season went down, I understand now why that happened!

Maybe the SOX will hire Maddon, win the WS and that guy will never have to buy another glass of wine on either end of town.

Maybe Jerry read my post...Head Idiot wrote:I see this season being a lot like 2000. Young, exciting, unexpected core of future stars (Konerko, Buehrle, Lee, Ordonez) led by a grizzled MVP candidate (Thomas). Could very well flounder for a couple years due to inexperience and a well intentioned, good guy who is a bad manager.
I'm all for avoiding 2001, 2002 and 2003 Part 2.
Edit- As usual with coaches, I was all for giving Rick the benefit of the doubt. The past week plus whatever the \"f\"ing yesterday was has me firmly in the fire the bum category. How do you trot out a million pitchers yesterday and not put out your most playoff experienced one with Gio?
Edit edit- because they didn't even have him on the roster for the playoffs.

Hope he doesn't fall asleep on the bench after drinking too much.

Well they'd be getting a HOF'er but he's 76 years old. I don't know if LaRussa still drinks or not.

Drinking and driving is an offense that I've never understood how people just move on from (both as the offender and the public). You deliberately chose to potentially murder people because of your irresponsibility.OSUBucks wrote:Well they'd be getting a HOF'er but he's 76 years old. I don't know if LaRussa still drinks or not.

I’ll bet the percentage of people who drink and then drive and kill someone else is even lower than the death rate from Covid 19. I think you have made the argument that anything with a death rate that low ought to be ignored.

Re: Chicago White Sox
If they are really considering recycling former White Sox greats, they should consider hiring Drake LaRoche to be the next manager!

A J Hinch also being considered. Great, the Sox might lead the league in sign stealing.

Hinch can teach sign stealing, LaRussa can get the steroids, and Ozzie can offend gay people and Cuban exiles.

For you, are these Ozzie's major offenses?19delta wrote:OSUBucks wrote:A J Hinch also being considered. Great, the Sox might lead the league in sign stealing.

Re: Chicago White Sox
Hahn, in his comments after the firing, sounded an awful lot like Theo Eptstein. I think he's well liked in baseball overall, but Renteria is a bench coach at best in this league. Teach fundamentals and help with in game management.

Agreed. Too much talent on the roster to waste on managerial missteps.

Hopefully it is just to pick his brain. The game has changed significantly in the past 10 years and I don't believe the players would get behind him. I bet some players have no clue who he is.

I doubt they mention him much in Cuba. You know, where 5/9ths of the starting lineup is from.dusty7 wrote:Hopefully it is just to pick his brain. The game has changed significantly in the past 10 years and I don't believe the players would get behind him. I bet some players have no clue who he is.
