How long does it take to get from Chicago to Sterling?
The reason I ask is because, apparently, Chicago Phoenix is leaving their school (near the United Center) at 11:20 am today to come to Sterling for a 7:00 pm kickoff. It's a 50/50 proposition that they end up in Mt. Sterling instead.

It's 2.5 hours under normal traffic conditions. However, on a Friday afternoon, driving out of (or into) the city can be a hot mess. I don't blame them for leaving early. In fact, I think it's real smart. Takes traffic and unforeseen circumstances out of the equation.

Dont know why some one gave ramblinman a negative vote but he hit it on the head.Traffic in Chicago area is bad enough any day but seems to get worse on Fridays. One wreck on the way and you can add an hour to your trip in a heartbeat.I would imagine they are gonna stop and eat on the way too.Hell I give them credit for leaving early and giving themselves plenty of time to get there.

Agreed, leave as early as you can.
Question: "Well shouldn't they still be in school as long as possible? They are Student-Athletes"
Answer: They are student-athletes and have proven grades come first by remaining eligible (with most probably exceeding) in classes and have earned the right to prepare correctly for an IHSA playoff game.
I've never heard an administrator give that answer before, but I sure would love to work with anyone who did!

any reason to get out of inner city Chicago is a good reason. for cps schools getting a bad wrap for arriving late so frequently I actually applaud them for making sure they aren't late to an ass kicking.
thinking functionally though, I wonder if this is a bus issue? id guess with so many kids living in close proximity of their school cps schools probably don't bus a lot. there is a huge influx of games this week, for the first time in week in 9 weeks, that is gonna require cps school to leave their area and travels hours to a host. maybe they had to rent a bus and this was the time the bus could, maybe the bus is dropping off and getting back to do the regular school drop offs, or haul another team?

Apparently, the travel plans didn’t work. IHSA has 42-0 at the end of 1st quarter.
