Hopefully us here at Texas we won’t be forgotten on our message on this topic. In a short few weeks, hopefully us a program and our individuals within our program can help truly affect real change in the system.”
Ya. Right up until the point they don't help him win games or may cause him to lose his little piece of the pie.

That kinda stuff, and the expectation that we all act that way, is one reason I'm glad I'm out.lefty120 wrote:I had not seen that. Thanks for sharing.

929 new cases today. That's two days in a row under 1000.

Encouraging that we are trending down in that stat. BTW, it is now around early April daily new case levels, which was basically 2-3 weeks into the stay at home order. May it continue to trend downward.

ISBE and IDPH just put out that we can start driver ed behind-the-wheel sessions. Other limited functions at schools (no sports yet) are also allowable.

Ha!
That was the FIRST thing I noticed!
They are saying that everyone has to wear a mask, only 2 students at a time, and all surfaces, including seats, must be disinfected after each session.

I'm assuming they will give me some kind of aerosol spray. Like Lysol. And probably disinfectant wipes. Oh...and we are also supposed to keep the windows open...
Not really crazy about having to drive with a mask on, though.

Re: Coronavirus II
Ok, they may have tested positive but how bad are the sympyoms? Is it a possibility they die from this? Stats point to no. Some teams may want the infection to spread now rather than in the season to build up herd immunity, kind of like the old Chicken Pox Parties.
My step dad, who is 73, is recovering from the virus. He said it was similar to the flu but definitely put him on his butt for 2 days. Each day he's getting better and better. He was told he can end isolation after 3 days without a fever, tested positive last Wed. He said he doesn't wish it upon anyone to get it but it is definitely a bit overhyped.

Re: Coronavirus II
Apparently the 5 Alabama players were asymptomatic. There has been a recent surge in COVID19 cases in Tuscaloosa County. Colleges already have plans in place to quarantine any of their athletes who test positive. As we get closer to the start of the season there are going to be players who test positive here and there. As Dusty said, for a healthy young athlete the chances of this being terminal are very low. My bigger concern is if round 2 of the pandemic hits sometime in November and the impact that might have on sports and the country.

More likely the 2nd or 3rd week of October. You know, to get maximum effectiveness by November 3rd.OSUBucks wrote: My bigger concern is if round 2 of the pandemic hits sometime in November and the impact that might have on sports and the country.

i hardly think that's the issue i was raising. once a team gets hit there's going to be quarantining of people exposed, players, coaches, support staff trainers, cafeteria workers, etc.
if this happens to a couple of other teams, the ncaa or governors like pritzker could start shutting down stuff again.

Re: Coronavirus II
1156 new cases today. As of last night there were 2911 hospitalizations with COVID19 in Illinois. 817 in intensive care and 500 on ventilators. At our peak the hospitalizations were over 5000. We have been sloping downward for a while but it's not over yet. With all the protest marching in the last week and lack of social distancing I wonder if we're going to see a bit of a spike from it.

Unemployment rate 13.3% today. I didn't think it would be that good this soon. Also AstraZeneca is starting to produce a vaccine candidate and has promised 300 million vaccines to the US. However Bill Gates is involved in this initiative so that might scare a few folks off.
