Bears GM and HC Search

What does everyone think of the Bears search so far. I think they have brought in some really interesting guys. Any Favorites that stand out to you or any that make you cringe.

Leslie Frazier as HC really makes me cringe. Quite a few of the GMs candidates I like. Only a few HCs candidates really got my eye right now.

GM - I would like to see Rick Smith, was with the Texans until 2019.  Left due to wife having cancer.  Drafted Watt, Hopkins, and Watson and built up the Texans to be competitive and had some sustained success during his tenure.  

Coach - Flores, did some great things in Miami and if he got another few years probably would have been good for the Dolphins.

Sadly, they will screw the pooch on this and will hire Bear people and we will be searching for a new coach and GM in 4 years.

I’d go with Brian Daboll as HC. Did you see the job his Offense did on New England over the weekend? Oh he can also develop QB’s too. The Bears haven’t been strong on offense for a long time. Dusty’s guy Rick Smith wouldn’t be a bad choice for GM. Dusty is probably right in that the Bears will screw it up.

I don’t follow who is being interviewed. Do they have to announce interviews or does that info just leak out?

It’s leaked out. The Bears have interviewed a lot of guys already.

Daboll would be great but I think he is from Canada, we all know what happened last time the Bears hired a Canadian. As a Bills fan as well, I think he should stay there.

I just hope they hire a guy that is not solely focused on just the offense or development of Fields. Needs to be a part of all facets of the game and is a Head Coach, not a coordinator. I don't want the HC to have any play calling duties, this isn't High School, and the coaches that are good enough to do both duties already have jobs.

Matt Ebeflus getting 2nd interview for HC position with Chicago

The Bears have scheduled a 2nd interview for the HC position with Colts DC Matt Eberflus.

Not entirely thrilled about that. Would rather see someone with HC experience.

Not thrilled about this one either. I won’t be surprised though if someone formerly or currently from the Colts organization receives one of the open positions.

I'd imagine that has to do with having Polian as a consultant, which on and of itself shows the lack of football knowledge at Halas Hall. Use some money and hire a full time person who has football knowledge and have them act as VP or some other position.

Just saw the Colts asst GM Ed Dodds withdrew his name from consideration, probably a smart move on his part.

I’m not excited about it. He’s a good man but I’d consider it an average hire. Former Colt so it wouldn’t surprise me.

Well the Bears just hired GM Ryan Poles from the Chiefs. If they hire Matt Eberflus from Indy as Head Coach we will have Ryan and Matt as our "Football" Guys still!

Poles has been in contact with Dan Quinn, Jim Caldwell and Todd Bowles for the HC job.

I would be good if Bowles got the job. I wonder if he would be able to get Leftwich to come over as OC with him. The opportunity to Coach a guy like Fields might look alot better with talk of Brady retiring.

Of those 3 guys Bowles would be my choice too. Bringing in a guy who can develop Fields is a high priority.

Insiders are saying Poles is the real deal and a great hire.  My only reservation about the hire is that he is from the Chiefs. The Bears tried that with Nagy and it didn't work out. I think it is safe to say that the Chiefs success is largely because of Andy Reid and his ability to coach both his players and his assistants.

As for HC, Quinn, Caldwell, and Bowles are decent but not groundbreaking hires and are possible lateral moves which is what the Bears are the best at.

Colts DC Matt Eberflus expected to be Bears new HC. Not surprised but I’m not too happy about it either.
