Re: R.I.P. Republican Party
I'm sure some will scream biased because it's Fox News but I doubt other outlets will even cover this.
Looks like a left-wing activist infiltrated the mob storming the Capitol. I guess they weren't all Trumpers.

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser tweeted on JANUARY 5th
"To be clear, the District of Columbia is not requesting other federal law enforcement personnel and discourages any additional deployment without immediate notification to, and consultation with, MPD if such plans are underway."
On January 14th, there are 20,000 National Guardsmen in D.C.... that sets a record for a Biden event turn-out... by 19,950.

This whole event is turning into a classic Stalinist purge. Take small event (really, in the scope of human, or even American history, this is a small event), make a scapegoat/boogeyman out of your opposition and then use the media/propaganda to systematically eliminate your opposition.BirdWatcher wrote:dusty7 wrote:I'm sure some will scream biased because it's Fox News but I doubt other outlets will even cover this.

How dare you, sir! This was a INSURRECTION!!!!
Really, it was trying to scare/bully Congress to agree to a ten-day audit so the country can trust the election outcome.... literally the opposite of an insurrection. It would be more accurate to say Congress was the insurrection and the mob tried, and failed, to force a transparent election.

Re: R.I.P. Republican Party
A violent uprising against an authority or government.
I agree with most that this whole thing is being overblown...but there’s quite a few videos of violence that can’t be talked around...by supporters of the President. Was there left wing crack pots there too...probably. But it sure seems right now that there weren’t that many.
The definition of insurrection is above. Video evidence is pretty clear that’s what this was. Now, I don’t like the media continuing to use that word because they don’t use it to simply describe what happened, the media by in large use it because they know it’s a trigger word that gets people riled up...which we clearly don’t need any more of right now.

What word would you have them use other than the one that most aptly described what happened?

Re: R.I.P. Republican Party
This morning USA Today published that the Feds had evidence that those who stormed the Capitol were seeking to "capture and assassinate elected officials."
A few hours later they have walked back that claim - https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2021/01/15/capitol-rioters-accused-aim-capture-and-assassinate-officials/4174807001/
As for the insurrection, I agree with Lefty that they are using the term to get a rise out of people. Â Don't forget, that Trump threatened to invoke the INSURRECTION ACT, which was passed in 1807 and has been amended several times since, and I think that is also playing a role in the use of that particular term.
Call it an insurrection, revolt, uprising, mutiny, insurgence, riot, whatever you want to call it, it happened and those involved are being arrested and will be found guilty. Â No matter how hard people try, Trump will never accept 100% responsibility and people will continue to argue how much responsibility he should bear because of the words he spoke or the context of the words he spoke. I think many of those involved were going to do this anyway regardless of what Trump said. The plans were in place long before Trump took the podium for the speech. Â
He has come out with statements asking for no violence on Inauguration Day. Â Will he still be blamed if there is violence? What if he concedes and says the Elections results are 100% true and accurate, is that going to suddenly stop those who want to create another insurrection?

Give me your working definition of "small event".
Four Americans died in Benghazi and five in this "small event".
I still am hearing about Benghgazi.

Re: R.I.P. Republican Party
Because Trump conceding won't do a damn thing to stop these people, those who want to create chaos and violence will create chaos and violence. Just the like BLM protests. Some people were there for the sole purpose of creating chaos and violence. Just like the leftist individual who was arrested yesterday. Was he motivated solely by Trump's words? Is Trump responsible for this guy's actions even though he was opposed to Trump?Teetime wrote:dusty7 wrote: What if he concedes and says the Elections results are 100% true and accurate, is that going to suddenly stop those who want to create another insurrection?

You don’t know that. Let’s give it a try. What if it doesn’t work, are we any worse off than today?

This brand spanking new Congresswoman from northern Georgia is the new face of the GOP. She called for the trumpanista troops to “mobilize” today and got suspended from Twitter.
She made news on Friday when she announced she would introduce impeachment legislation on Biden later this week.
Every time someone mentions AOC, I’m bringing up this loon. Oh...She is also a Q-anon believer.

As soon as 75% of Republicans surveyed say they would support her in a presidential bid as polled Dems did with AOC, feel free to call her the face of the GOP.Teetime wrote:This brand spanking new Congresswoman from northern Georgia is the new face of the GOP. People can hope all they want, nothing will change. It is not like when Biden finishes the Oath of Office, he will wave a magic wand and all will be solved.
We have a broken system of government and the leaders are inept at providing any substantial solutions to the problems we face. No matter what the policy changes we see in the near future it will not solve the problems us regular folk face every day.
The question is always asked, "are you better or worse off than you were 4 years ago." My answer for the past 12 years has been, nothing the Federal Government has done has significantly improved or hurt my life.

I don't know that the system is broken. The politicians have just figured out how to game it for their personal benefit.
And the people are either too stupid (which the politicians have seen to) or too busy fighting over the breadcrumbs thrown to them to realize they could do something about.

Re: R.I.P. Republican Party
12 years ago today the economy was in a free fall. We were losing millions of jobs per quarter.
I think all of us are better off today than that moment in time.
Jobs lost per month:
2008
September 2008 – 433,000 jobs lost
November 2008 – 803,000 jobs lost
December 2008 – 661,000 jobs lost
2009
January 2009 – 818,000 jobs lost
February 2009 – 724,000 jobs lost
March 2009 – 799,000 jobs lost
April 2009 – 692,000 jobs lost

Not really.
It was a global recession. Our government didn’t help to avoid it but the cause was really over leveraging debt by businesses in search of higher investment returns.

As HI said, all was caused by govt policies and they used massive bailouts, paid for by tax payers, to fix their mistakes. Fast forward to now, their policies have made the economic impact of coronavirus worse than it needed to be and now they are passing billions of $$$ in stimulus, which will be paid for by the tax payers.
