Re: Home gym equipment must-haves
Those are fantastic achievements my both of those kids...their parents ought to be really proud of them.
Great job!
Great job!

She did awesome. Great first meet!
I bet she was walking just a little bit taller at school today!

She was, but not all that tall. She puked about 3-4 times on the way home/before she went to sleep.19delta wrote:Head Idiot wrote:We're really proud of her. She's super excited about it too.

I think it was a combination of things. All the energy she put into the meet/worrying about it, a terrible night of sleeping (don't stay at the Best Western in Lombard), and too much cheese (we ate Giordano's Saturday night and she's a touch lactose intolerant). She went to school today, but has been asleep since she got home. Never had a fever, just think it was an ugly crash for her.
She's been kind of a puker her whole life. I blame her mother.

Whenever we are at a meet at 2XL, it's always Portillo's and now White Castle at the new location.

I know I've never had White Castle. I think I've only Portillo's once.

I heard about her mom puking all over you at the wedding.

That is very impressive. Are any of those lifters playing football?

The sophomore and the junior. The sophomore is a pretty special kid. 2x+ BW squatter, broad jumps 8.5'+, and has a 32.5" VJ. If he can put about 20lbs on over the next 18 months, he's an All-State caliber RB/DB/LB.
The junior is the textbook definition of weight room success. He was a short, fat, dumpy, unathletic kid in 7th grade. Never did any sports. Couldn't do a single pushup. He went out for wrestling and just got destroyed. Like, if you blinked, the match was over. He got in the weight room after the season and put the work in. Nothing fancy. Squats, presses, dead lifts, and pulls. The next year in wrestling, he started beating some of those kids who had thumped him the previous year. He can knock out 10 pullups at around 200lbs BW and totalled over 1,000lbs in the meet on Sunday. He's not a great athlete but is a super smart kid and a real grinder. He should challenge for a starting spot on the OL or DL for us.

I love hearing success stories like that of your Junior. What a difference you made in that kids life.

Yeah. I really enjoy the writing aspect of it. We have had pretty good local media coverage for our kids.
Especially now, with a lack of high school sports, we have been able to get quite a few articles published.

Re: Home gym equipment must-haves
Update on my female mini me- This week was max week for PE. Hit 260 on squat (she failed on 230 at the competition) and benched 145 (her record was 120). DL is still a struggle...
EDIT- about a half hour after I typed this she deadlifted 260 in the basement.

That's great!
One of our kids is doing the Beginner's Meet in Lombard in two weeks and then we have about 4 kids doing the APF Illinois State Raw Championships in March. In June, AAPF Nationals is in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. My kid, one of our seniors, and one of our freshman girls (the senior's little sister) is doing that meet.
We just had a kid (the senior mentioned above) accept a scholarship with the McKendree powerlifting team. Really excited for him. We had the signing for him yesterday.
