Fondy snaps the nation's longest current high school win streak at 70 with a FG with 1 second left.

Fondy had an inadvertent whistle called on them with 4th-and-short. Ball dead before it crosses for 1st. Happened at Kimberly 15 yard line in 4th q. Kimberly proceeded to score and tie at 28.

It was worth the 5-hour drive to Kimberly, a suburb of Appleton. Suburban 8A-like atmosphere. Wimpy food options.

Kimberly had won 5 straight Wisconsin 1A (highest class) titles coming into tonight.

I’ve seen Coach Jones speak at the Track Football Consortium a couple different times. Unbelievable speaker and seems to be a truly great guy. If you ever have the chance to hear him talk, I’d highly recommend it.

The nation's longest winning streak once again resides in Missouri. Seven-time Class 2 champion Lamar sits atop the national leaderboard with 50 consecutive victories after a season-opening 65-20 thumping of Logan-Rogersville on Friday.

The Tigers assumed the top spot after Kimberly High (Wisc.) had its state-record 70-game win streak broken Aug. 18. Fon du Lac hit a field goal as time expired to beat the Papermakers 31-28. A five-time defending state champion, Kimberly hadn't lost since the 2012 playoffs.

Kimberly's streak became the best in the nation when Lamar won at Valle Catholic 50-13 on Oct. 1, 2016. Valle had won 51 consecutive games, Kimberly was at 49 and Lamar extended its streak to 27.

Lamar coach Scott Bailey told the Springfield News-Leader the streak has a unique set of complications.

“Our kids have gotten themselves to the point where winning is a relief. If you looked at the kids tonight, as soon as we got a lead, everyone took a big sigh of relief. That's sad for a high school kid to have that much pressure on him to win a game that it's a relief when they know they're going to win,” Bailey said. “My job as a coach is to try to get those kids to enjoy themselves.”
