Game Cancellations

Morris pushed their game with Ottawa until tomorrow at 11... with the sounds of the thunder out there, I was wondering if anyone else had....

We were able to play ours, although lightning ended the game with around a minute left in the third quarter. Unfortunately, we laid an egg and the score was out of hand by then. For whatever reason in Iowa, most games are pushed back to the following Monday instead of Saturday, although in checking scores I see a few did play yesterday.

We will be continuing tonight at 7:00. About 3 min left in the 1st.

A friend brought this up on twitter, the teams that played on Thursday may have violated the new IHSA policy about live tackling contact 2 days in a row since they prob did more than what is considered allowable on Wednesday.

We are following the rule to the letter with regard to not playing anyone in more than 2 games per week and nothing back to back. This is causing us to dress less than 30 kids for Friday night and then the varsity backups are really shaky. The decent freshman play on Monday's JV game and then in the Freshman games. We have 2 freshman that are not playing any freshman ball or JV really. I cannot say that is the case for some other schools.

But as typical, the IHSA has a hard time thinking through the ramifications of their decisions. (See also districts)

The soph team we are supposed to play this upcoming Friday forfeited due to lack of players. However, they have found enough to play a soph game today against the other bad team in our conference.

As for JV/Soph/Frosh games. There some teams who have played 6-8 games already. They are playing games every Saturday and Monday with the same kids.

At the SOV/Warrensburg game, SOV had 16 players dressed. There are 25 on their roster 9-12.

Since we didn't finish our game from Friday until last night we had several players who get significant playing time in the JV game on Monday forced to sit out today because they played on a few Special Teams plays or got in for a few plays to spell another player. One kid took 1 snap-on defense because we had a player's helmet come off during a play.  

It was an odd situation and one that will probably never happen again but I feel for those kids practicing for the JV game all week and not getting the chance to play tonight.

Last Friday I believe they started the Wilmington /Lisle game....stopped it then finished it Sunday...then both played last night...Is this in violation of the new rules??Just wondering.

Not a violation since game was not played on consecutive days. Players can participate in 2 games in a given week as long as they are not on consecutive days. This is what motivated the move of JV games to Monday instead of Saturday.
