Elmwood Park, Ridgewood, Fenton, Riverside-Brookfield grab Westmont & Lisle.
Nice 6 team conference.
Many think those 4 publics will bail out of the Metro Suburban given all the private school additions.

Westmont and Lisle would be the two smallest schools, by far, in that hypothetical conference. I'm not sure they would consider it all that nice.

Rumor is that this is pretty much a done deal:
Herscher, Peotone, Manteno, Reed-Custer, Wilmington, Coal City, Lisle, Streator will be the new Interstate 8 Conference. Not sure if they will keep the name or not.

They should call it the Intrastate Eight.
That should keep anyone from getting confused.

Re: Not this shit again......
Dusty or anyone know how the I8 conference will be set up for the 2018 year? Two divisions of 5 or one 10 team round robin?
A few weeks ago, Wilmington had an open week on next year's schedule per the 8to18 website. Now their 2018 schedule is full with all conference teams.

Re: Not this shit again......
I believe it will be divided into 2 divisions for this final season of true I-8 football.
Weeks 1-2 are open, you will play 4 conference opponents and 3 cross overs. Due to uneven number of teams one cross over will be played during what was the typical conference weeks.
Wilmington's schedule is full and I thought we opened up with Coal City Week 1 instead of Manteno but it may have switched due to the uneven number of teams.
Large:
Coal City
Manteno
Plano
Sandwich
Streator
Small
Herscher
Lisle
Reed-Custer
Peotone
Wilmington

ottawa, lp, morris, and rochelle are reportedly leaving the NIB12. im very disappointed to hear this.
that leaves sterling, geneseo, yorkville, kaneland, sycamore, and dekalb. because of geography and enrollment, i can't see that group staying together.

What is behind those four leaving?
Is it enrollment? Geography? A better offer?
Is it football driven?

I think Geneseo is leaving too. You're right Ging, that group didn't stay together.

It's always Football driven. That's not a knock against any of those 4 schools, they're not the first and won't be the last who have made a change in their conference. Football is and always will be the #1 reason for all conference changes.

The move will leave the Northern Illinois Big 12 with five schools - DeKalb (1,790), Yorkville (1,746), Kaneland (1,343), Sycamore (1,254) and Sterling (998).
"Sterling's enrollment isn't as big as the others, but they are growing," Hussey said. "In a few years, they will probably be as big as Kaneland and they thought they were better served remaining in that conference."
someone is terribly misinformed to think sterling hs, which I don't recall being over 1100 in enrollment since the 80s, is going to "probably be as big as kaneland". I live here. there is no significant growth here. there hasn't been for decades. if sterling is growing, it's not by much and there's no way it will reach sycamore's enrollment, let alone kanleand or the others.

If asked, would Sterling be interested in going with the 5 NIB teams joining Plano and Sandwich?

+1
Ditto.
We're looking for teams to play in weeks one and nine and cannot find a school close to our size within 100 miles who will play us. We are fortunate to still have some choices, even if they do involve a bit of travel - I can imagine for the dominant programs it is a nightmare to line games up.

Maybe Hussey got Sterling confused with Streator......just read where Streator is getting a 65 room hotel

I would assume they would be, but it's very strange they weren't asked. Sterling dominated the West division in Football the last 2 years, but talent is always cyclical as has been discussed before. What I could see happening is Sterling joins Kaneland, Yorkville, Dekalb, Sycamore, and Burlington (pending on if they don't join the Fox Valley), and then after 4-5 years, the new I8 extends an invite back out to Sterling who accepts as it makes more sense for them for travel purposes, and the cycle of the conference merry go round continues.

Yorkville is going to be over 2,000 kids soon and could end up seeing the same growth like Huntley did. It'd make sense for Yorkville to join the Suburban Prairie with the Plainfields, Minooka, Oswegos, but they'd be even less competitive in Football than they already are. At least in the NIB, they usually only get beat by 14 to 35, in the SPC, they'll get clocked every week.

That's amazing as we wrestled Yorkville in 93 and 94 in the class A state tournament and we were bigger than them at that time.tincup1215 wrote:Yorkville is going to be over 2,000 kids soon and could end up seeing the same growth like Huntley did. I guess that's where all the kids from down here are going.

Grundy, I would hope so. It makes a lot more sense than the alternative option.

Re: Not this shit again......
Currently, Sterling public schools has 780 middle school students (grades 6 - 8 ). That's 260 per class. So, that's roughly 1040 future high school students. Even with an unusually large class added to the mix and not losing any students, that's only 1100. Wondering where, how, and why the Morris principal got her information.
