Is this a surprise or wa it expected?  After hearing him speak at the UofI clinic last year it surprised me.

I was surprised when I first heard it but it might have been in the works for a couple of years. He put in a lot of work to get Auburn turned around and coached at Boylan a long time.

Not an ego guy at all. He is the type that can move on when it is time. Article makes it sound like he will help out in some capacity.

Yeah. He did a great job there. Auburn was easily one of the worst programs in the state pre-Appino. He brought in instant credibility and the administration, to their credit, gave him everything he asked for and the results speak for themselves.

I coached against Appino when he was still at Boylan. Not well...score was 29-0 at the end of the 1st Qt. I remember standing on the sideline and thinking, "Oh my God...I am going to lose this game 100-0!" The guy can flat-out coach.

Any ideas for Appino's replacement at Auburn, I do think several Boylan assistants went with him, IIRC.

Rockford Auburn has already named a guy that just needs board approval. I cannot remember the name but he has been with Appino since he has been at Auburn. Not sure if he was a Boylan guy or not. An article that I saw last night had the name.

I do not know much about Joliet. Why is West so much better than Central?

The demographics are different to a degree, so I get that. But why is it not seen in the other sports? I would say it has more to do with coaching, the lower levels, and the history/buy in of the programs.

If it was simply coaching someone would have turned that place around by now:

Joliet Central is 61% Hispanic 17% White 18% Black 75% Low Income
Joliet West is 37% Hispanic 35% White 24% Black 50% Low Income

I have worked inside both buildings. They are nowhere close to the same environment.

Casson resigned during their football banquet Tuesday night. Something about student athletes not meeting goals he had set for them, so he felt he had to resign. I could be mistaken on the reasoning, but I am not on the timing.

Thanks for the info. I remember the really good days of Pontiac football. I would think this will be a pretty attractive job still to a lot of people.

Frankly, that seems mildly insane if true.

He did resign. I think it had more to do with family health issues if I understood him correctly.

Pontiac is a very different place from the heights of the Mick days. They are bleeding student population. They were well over 900 students when Buck played in the midst of their conference championship runs. They are at 675 now. As I understand it, their population continues to contract.

I would imagine they are also dealing with a lot of the same things declining communities across Illinois are- bad family life situations, opioid problems, employment issues, etc.

He said that? At the banquet? That had to be more than a little awkward.

He had a goal of 4 pieces of chicken each. He saw a lot of players filling up on salad and said; "That's it! I'm out of here."

Palos Heights Shepard Open according to IHSS.

A little surprised at that one, Coach Passolano did a great job up there.

Pretty much doubled the school's playoff appearances in nine year.
