What are you doing? What's your plan? What are your weekly goals? Your biggest challenges?

Re: fat man challenge
What I'm doing differently, and I really started doing this back in July, was making sure I walk and jog three miles 4 days a week. I used to use my busy schedule as an excuse to not get that in, but now I do that no matter what and have had to get up at 5 in the morning a few times on school days to get it done. I do still lift weights too and that has helped my overall look. People are surprised when I tell them I'm "only" down around 3O pounds from a year ago. Most guess almost twice that!
Food-wise, nothing drastic, but I have been eating more apples and oranges and except for Pringles, I've totally cut potato chips out of my diet and replaced those snacks with Ritz and saltine crackers. Except for Subway, I never eat fast food anymore either.
My biggest challenges are maitaining discipline with the diet, especially when it comes to sweets. I can't eat a Snickers or a few cookies or anything like that as a "treat" because that triggers a 3 or 4 day binge on hammering sweets! Except for an occasional cinammon roll at my secondary place of employment, I've almost cut those out as well but have occasional breakdowns. Another challenge will be this fall as I now have a coaching job again and that can be tough for anyone based on the hours and irregular hours you may end up eating depending on how late games, meetings, and practices go.

Re: fat man challenge
Under 290 this morning.
My short term goal is to be under 285 when I wake up next Saturday morning.
Down from a high of 302 on New Year's Day. Granted I weighed 296.8 the next morning.
Running could be a challenge today.

Re: fat man challenge
to add to BW's comment
Went to a seminar called Lasting weight loss. was pretty good and it was around the plan the BW engrained in me. Do more eat less. I will get the book link that was published in 1912 and publish other information later this weekend.
Bottom line Forget the gimmicks and do the work....

Re: fat man challenge
I swear, if my wife moves to TN this year, I'll drop 25 pounds like nobody's business. She claims I have "portion control" and "willpower" issues, but I DON'T BUY THE GROCERIES. If I did, we wouldn't have ANY of the bad stuff in the house.
I don't go "shopping." I go "buying." I make a list, I buy what's on the list, I come home. No ice cream, no cakes, no cookies. She buys stuff because Baby Bird is still living at home, but he's gone most of the time.
I tell her I'm doing an Adkins (no/lo carbs) diet and she brings home pasta and pizza. She keeps the candy dish full of stuff *I* like (which isn't much) instead of stuff I could easily turn away from.
I'll be a skinny dude when I'm living the bachelor life with BabyBird and his peeps....

2 + 2 + 2 = 200
Swam 2 miles, did 2 miles on the stat bike and 2 miles jogging the track. Weighed in at 200 lbs.
Time for a nap.

I'll normally make mid-month and end of the month posts, but since no one has posted in this thread in a while, I'll report that I'm down another pound to 305

Re: fat man challenge
Just returned from a week in paradise, otherwise known as Costa Rica.
The good news: ran 4 miles on the beach every morning, swam a mile or two in the Pacific.
The bad news: my beer intake was an almost constant velocity from 10:00am til 10:00pm... plus buffets.
Back in the pool tomorrow and will weigh in next Saturday after I get a chance to sweat off some of this vacation weight.
P.S. Zip lining thru the jungle canopy is a blast.. even if you don't dig heights like Mrs BW.

4 mile run plus 1-2 mile swim is a hell of a workout.
drinking beer for 12 hours straight is also a hell of a workout.

Re: fat man challenge
Clarification: the swims were only twice, in the afternoons. 1/2 mile each time. Seemed like more, with the salt water, waves crashing over, sharks, etc.

Re: fat man challenge
pretty good month but not great for me. i lost 7.5 and am down to 234.4.
i was sick the first 3 weeks and did not get any exercise. the last 10 days i have done alot of cardio. normally for me any cardio is alot, but ive been doing 30-45 minutes of biking at a real good clip. some days im doing that 2x a day.
im not worrying about lunch too much as far as consumption, but am trying smaller more frequent meals and then i dont eat much at night. usually empty calorie stuff. ive found that i actually enjoy alot of the fit active brand stuff from aldi, which is good cause im cheap and its alot healthier then alternatives.
i got to bust balls in feb. i told the wife i wanted to be 220 by the time the hospital ball came around, but i didnt realize it was so soon. i plan to do cardio in the morning, weights at night, and eating good in between. we shall see.

All time high weight, established a year ago this week--333
Jan 1 Weight--309
Feb 1st Weight--301
While I've come a long way in changing my eating and exercise habits, I feel like I could have done better last month and still took off 8 pounds, so I'll take it!

Re: fat man challenge
Greetings. I havent been here in a looong time. I think I joined in one of these challenges a couple years ago. I have battled with my weight forever. Like alot of you guys, Im what folks call a big guy. But I wanted to let you know and to feel good typing it, That In July I decided to get serious again. I recommitted to bike riding and watching what I ate. As BW says eat less, do more. Over the course of the next 4 months I went from 320 (personal high) to 275. I want to lose about 35 more but since about Dec have just been hanging in around 275. I am not exercising as much, not eating as much but drinking more. My metabolism has changed. I also did quite alot of hiking. Once the weather turns a little I will get back in and lose the next batch.
Anyway, good luck to all you guys doing it, its a grind and the older I get the harder it gets. (50)
