I actually thought spring sports were already done, so to me the big part of the announcement was the suspension of summer activities, although perhaps not a surprise as that's barely a month away.

Gonna be a Strange summer, but it might also help coaches and players that taking a break is ok in the summer.

I've said for years if/when I decide to hang up coaching, it won't be because of in-season demands on time, it'll be the summer demands. In fact, if our previous HC was still our HC, I would be done already. That was the most outrageous summer I've been a part of.

What did you have to do?

There were many days over the summer where he would have us coaches--and sometimes players--show up for film around 2:00 and then there was weight lifting for the kids who missed in the morning, then we had our on-the-field workout for 2.5 hours, then we coaches stayed and met afterwards until 9ish. That happened normally twice a week, but we had workouts/practices at least two other days a week besides that.

We had a team football camp which was actually a very fun experience, but we returned from it at around 11:00 on a Sunday night...and still had the morning weights at 6:30 the next morning.

And, as olcoach53 can attest...not all of what we did was legal and he knew it wasn't. Full-padded workouts, starting on May 31st (can't in Iowa until June 1), and other stuff even.

so i have to ask...how did the season go?

Went 2-7, which was actually a two win improvement over the year before. Much more competitive in games than in 2017 as well. But...everyone was pretty much ready for it to be over--players and assistant coaches alike--by week 6.

We started June 1st one year and expected the kids to lift 4X a week and practice 2X a week all summer and by the time August came around the Players and Coaches a little tired of each other. I believe we went nne & done in payoffs that year.
Never did that again.
