Re: fat man challenge
198.4 after my first full day of 4-Hour Body yesterday.
Watched "Forks Over Knives" Sunday and almost became a vegan after watching it... Can't refute some of the bigger points, but hell...meat tastes so GOOD! I think we'll try first by cutting out red meat, up our veggies, see what happens.
Goal is 175 by February 22nd, our Punta Cana trip. Doable but it would help to have an Olympic sized pool available...
Also gonna try affirmations, per Scott Adams. I guess affirmations are prayers for agnostics/atheists.

Re: fat man challenge
195.7, down 4.1 for the week using Tim Ferris' 4-Hour Body Plan. ran today about 3 miles but otherwise no significant workouts. The diet looks something like this (as I use it):
Eat within 30 minutes of waking
2 scrambled eggs, 1/2 can refried beans, some salsa, garlic powder & Italian seasoning for flavor
Men's multi-vitamin
PAGG (policosanol, alpha lipoic acid, green tree extract, garlic) in pill form
Veggie soup for lunch
Peanuts or Zone bar if hungry(Usually not)
34 ounces of coffee am, a re-brewed 1/2 pot off the old grounds at 1:00pm
Fill & drink my 34 ounce Caseys cup with water 3X during day...
Dinner is corn tortillas cooked in Coconut Oil, veggies, taco meat, salsa & salad.

I'm going tot try and get back in the habit of posting the 15th and 30th of every month. Weighed in this morning at 272, so down three pounds on the year. Almost three years ago--February of 2011--I weighed 335. I post that every time, because going by that number makes me feel a lot better!

Re: fat man challenge
190.4 after spending an hour shoveling manure at the barn. Down 9 since about January 5th.
This is a great diet if you like beans & meat. I miss milk, but we tried Almond milk and it's delicious. The chocolate Soy/almond milk is also killer. We're using corn tortillas instead of flour, and have switched to coconut oil instead of olive oil to cook in.
I had my first alcohol-free weekend since moving to TN. Kinda sucked, but oh well.
Friend from South Dakota gave me a bunch of moose meat (no fat, added to some turkey meat to it) and we've been using that for our tacos and other meat dishes. Yum.

Re: fat man challenge
We started the annual biggest loser contest in our district. Was not going to participate but got asked to join by our assistant principal. He did not have a partner and the rules here make ti mandatory to have a partner. So he rooked me in. Weighed in at 222.5 last Friday and 214.1 today. Gonna look to get into the 180s. My weight always fluctuates between 220 and 200. bout time to keep it under 195.

Re: fat man challenge
Guys, was hoping to jump in on the conversation. Been reading the boards for several years, but don't respond too often, as only a simple football fan.
The past few years I have been trying to lose weight but haven't been serious. After the Washington Illinois tornado and seeing what happened, it kinda struck a nerve and decided it was time to be serious, since it would be nice to see my 4 year old graduate college!! After losing some weight in 2012, I let it back on the 2013, plus some!
So on Jan 12, I started the South Beach Diet after eating all the left over candy in the house. It has been successful in the past, so doing it again with the wife. On Jan 13, weighed in at work at 318. Weighed in again on Jan 20 at work, 306.5. Obviously, most of this is "water weight", but it's a good start. My goal is to be 200 by the end of 2014. That is only 3 pounds a week, right? LOL
I will take the time tonight to read the rest of the post and see what has been successful. It's too cold to exercise outside, and having a daughter and wife in college, there is no extra money for a gym membership. I do walk a lot during the day at my current employment, with having 26 acres of office space to walk, there is no excuse not too! Good luck everyone and lets see if 2014 is the year!!

Just read a book on overall health called "A Short Guide to a
Long Life." It is not a weight loss book but written by a cancer doctor David Agus. He has a list of 65 rules that he believes in to improve health and overall quality of like. Easy read. Some simple stuff to implement.

Re: fat man challenge
Came back from a rough weekend in Mississippi visiting BW Junior. They don't offer vegetables in MS unless they're deep fried. In fact I think everything is deep fried...
Back on 4-Hour.. we'll see how long it takes to spring back into shape...

Steady at 175 and wearing 32/30 pants - same as high school, but then again, I weighed 205 and my frame was much different then.

Re: fat man challenge
I try to have a couple of vegetarian meals a week. Big Salads, with lots of goodies - cheese and nuts and such. Blanched asparagus that I then lightly cook with olive oil and garlic in a pan. Omelets with cheese, spinach, peppers and mushrooms. Even garbage pizza - all the veggies, not meat. Sit ups, push ups and curls (for the girls).
And I watch how I snack - maybe four Oreos at a time, not the whole sleeve.

Re: fat man challenge
Forgot to add that I weighted in on Monday at 302. So far, that is 16 pounds in 2 weeks. OF course, it won't keep up that pace, but it's a good start.
BW, after spending a couple of years in Mississippi gettin' my "edumacation", the only place to find non-fried veggis is at an all you can eat buffet. I think the first time we went through Starkville, stopping at a gas station, and found one could buy fresh cooked 3 course meal to go. Of course, the meat was all fried, fresh okra, and a knock your socks off sweat tea!!!!

I'm just glad the Catfish Hotel served draft beer... Last time I was in Corinth, we couldn't find a restaraunt that served alcohol.

Re: fat man challenge
Weighed in at 272 again this morning, which I'm thrilled with! Based on my eating habits and irregular workout schedule the last two weeks, I thought maybe at I'd be at the 275 I started the year with, if not a pound or two higher.

Got in my first "long" run of the year by going five miles today. It was kind of boring running around our gym the whole time...but it was also nice being able to just run and not be constrained by a time limit at the Y!

I ran this morning so I could get it in before the blizzarding. Still paying for my Super Bowl gluttony though. 284 this morning.wolverine55 wrote:Got in my first "long" run of the year by going five miles today. 282 this morning for me. Not good, but not terrible. Only about 5 lbs over where I was every morning of football season.

Maybe it's just the weather, but I'm having a hard time finding my motivation this year. Nothing new to report in terms of my weight. Well...nothing I'm willing to report anyway...

Re: fat man challenge
Just returned from a week in Punta Cana, Dom Rep.. always bad for the diet, but I did manage to run 5 of the 7 days and power walk to the other two days.
Back on the 4-Hour Body Plan, will report at week's end.
