Happened to Sterling a few years ago, but it wasn't as overt as "voting them out". Basically some member schools of the NIB12 started a new conference and didn't invite Sterling. And it was 100% because of football, in spite of what some of the schools claimed.
Griffin (SHG) was the reason the devolved the Capitol Conference. The Springfield Schools joined the Peoria Schools and formed another conference. It ended up being a bad move. Not only was their travel cost higher, they ended up getting killed by the Peoria schools in most sports.
Griffin was an independent and we traveled all over the place to play football games. We did get to play in a lot of great historic High School Stadiums against great teams, but I know it was hard to put a schedule together. In the end, the CS8 was formed and that is where we are today.
