gas prices
back in January or February, I believe gas got down to $1.39 around here. and I remember some "expert" saying the price would continue to drop in the next few months, or words to that effect.
it's $2.59 today in sterling.

Re: gas prices
I filled up this morning at $1.999/gal at Costco and then went to the grocery store. I couldn't find a damn thing at the grocery store that I could buy cheaper per gallon than any price listed here in this thread for gas.

Re: gas prices
to be fair...prices have dropped this summer. it's 1.84 in sterling today.
but I wanted to put this here just to see if this becomes reality...
“As air temperatures across the country rise to sweltering levels, gas prices have continued to cool," said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy. "Not only are gas prices nationally at their lowest level of the summer, but they have continued to decline as the glut of oil and refined products has persisted. Almost every state saw a decline in gasoline prices versus last week, thanks to crude oil prices approaching their lowest level of the summer."
"I foresee that excluding a major hurricane or other disruption, we are very likely to see many more states with average prices falling under $2 per gallon by Halloween. Truth be told, however, that really isn't a far stretch considering two out of 5 stations nationally and 11 states are already there," DeHaan added.

Re: gas prices
In Cook county, right off the expressway in Palatine, the price this morning was $2.35 at Shell and across the street at BP, it's $2.39.
At a Shell in Elk Grove Village - not right off the expressway - the cost was $2.29.

My kids play the game of how little gas they can leave in our family vehicles for the next person to drive them. Basically, it comes down to they don't want to pay their own money to put gas in the tank. Filled up one on Tues night and a different one on Weds morning.

One of the small victories I bask in is when I stop for gas and have Twin B with me - she has a gas card for her mother's business. High octane and a deluxe wash!

Can't you throw a carton of cigarettes on there? Twin B could sell them at school.

We were in North Carolina last week when the gas pumps all ran dry. I was on empty, but it's diesel, so I wasn't too worried. Found a station that was empty on gas but still had diesel. The price was listed as $2.59 (high) and the pump jockey tried to "negotiate" with me on whether I should fill up, and what I should pay.
