Checked this site today on a whim, and wow! Glad I did. I coached at Mt. Vernon one year under Coach Mings and it was the 2005 year where we went 11-1. It was an awesome year and I really enjoyed coaching with him. Circumstances unrelated to football led me to leave after only one year or else I'm not too sure I wouldn't still be down there.

Coach Mings is a good dude and well respected for good reason...I'm curious though, he's retired from teaching I believe. Wonder if we are going to start seeing more and more former coaches who have retired either sticking around (Kerry Martin at Marian) or coming back out of retirement like Coach Mings as schools struggle to find people willing to coach teams for the minimal stipends they get?

Asking as a Herscher Tiger alum, what can you tell us about the new hire? Is he a teacher on staff and has he been with the program a bit? I recall him being involved with the youth program at some point.

He has been on Staff with Wetzel for awhile now. Id say since atleast the 2015 season. He just got a job as a shop teacher a few years ago so he is in the building. He was involved with the JFL program for a long time.

Max Fransen hired as new HC at Watseka. Was Herscher DC last few years. I was surprised he didn't get the Herscher job.

Good for Fransen...I've heard good things about him from some of my friends who still follow the program. What's your take on why they went a different direction BH?

Re: 2021-2022 Head Coach Openings
Honestly I think it comes down to numbers and I heard Herscher's overall numbers were pretty low last year. I think Max having Coached some college ball already is probably more structured and runs a more discipline ship and we all know Kids hate that. Mike has long standing relationships with a lot of kids because of his JFL background. Probably a bit more laxed on things. Right now Herscher needs more kids on board than jumping ship. It nothing personal because I like both guys. I think Max was more qualified for the position.

This is what I have heard as well. I have also heard some kids were turned off due to some of the players on the teams and their attitude and approach to the game. I don't know how much credence I give to this but something I have heard.
At this point for the Tigers, it is not about wins and losses but getting kids interested in playing football again.

There is just not a lot of athletic talent in the building right now, basketball, baseball, soccer and talk are all seeing rough times.. I have heard it will go back to normal in a couple of years as some talent at Limestone MS
