Re: Semi finals
There’s quite a few Juniors on the SHG team. They figure to be hard to handle next year. They rallied from a 25-7 deficit to pull out this win at Rochester. The coaches have done a hell of a job with this team.

Re: Semi finals
Anyone know why the Sycamore feed still shows "Event Delayed" an hour after kickoff?

Re: Semi finals
If we were doing a pick'em this season I would have gotten slaughtered by this semi-final. Congratulations to all the teams going to Dekalb.
Special shout out to the SHG team and staff for defeating a Rochester team that had beaten you earlier in the season.
The Nashville score is a big shock to me, I did not think there was a team in 2A that could compete with St. T this season.

Pretty amazing win for Byron.
Down 14-0.
2 TDs in the final four minutes to win it.
Byron vs Unity in 3A. Should be a great game.
Rockets looking for their 1st state title, whereas Byron won their only title back in 1999.
Fun matchup.

Cant remember the last time this has happened, but 5 guaranteed public school champions, with the potential of 7 with Kankakee and Wheaton North.

But there are still a few out there that would like to kick the private schools out.

A few?
Try pretty much most fans of a public school that got bounced from the playoffs by a private school. It galls them.

Re: Semi finals
Nashville with an upset over S(hi)t. Teresa. Down in the 4th and have a great and a last drive that left me questioning the coaching decision, running and keeping the clock running rather than taking a shot, but it all worked out with a FG with a few seconds left in the game.
Byron with a phenomenal 4th quarter and from what I saw and have heard, looked like they were more physical and wore down IC.
Tolono with a great comeback win over Mt. Carmel after being down 21-14 in the 2nd half.
Wilmington handled TV but TV played their hearts out and left it all on the field.
Overall a very interesting week of semi final football for the small schools.

Re: Semi finals
What an amazing comeback by Byron. I thought *maybe* Byron or Reed-Custer could give IC a decent game, but only if IC was on the road.
No way I thought IC would lose in Elmhurst. Stunning.

Re: Semi finals
agree, byron with another crazy cardiac comeback.
I know that Considine is on their staff (nfl vet and super bowl champion). Is that (former nfl player as a coach) a difference maker at the end of close games like that? maybe a difference in all games? obviously can bring or install a different culture?

Re: Semi finals
Did Loyola suffer some injuries in the last couple of rounds? Loyola seemed to mostly sail through their season and the first two rounds of the playoffs and then they hit LWE and eked out a 3-0 win and then were upset by Lockport in the semis. The game against Lockport was not particularly close.
Loyola just seemed like a lock in 8A....
If it is a close game in the championship, watch out for Maine South. MS has won its last three games by a TOTAL of six points!

In that LA vs LWE game, Loyola dominated everywhere except on the scoreboard. They held LWE to around 115 yards of total offense while ringing up 7 sacks. It was one of those games where all the stats were heavily in Loyola's favor, but they just couldn't find the end zone.
The final score of the Loyola vs Lockport game might look like it wasn't particularly close, but the score was tied at 14 at half, and Loyola was down by just one score with 4 mins left in the game...and then Lockport picked off a deflected pass at midfield to kill Loyola's chance to eat up some clock and tie the game late. That said, the better team that day definitely won. Five turnovers really killed the Ramblers.
In the Lockport game, Loyola's two starting RBs left in the second quarter with injuries, and the starting TE, who should have been a second stringer (see below), went out in Q2 with a hip flexor. Loyola's starting QB injured his thumb on the first possession of the second half. He stayed in, but the injury affected his passing game.
Loyola's stud RB, who rushed for 335 yds and 4 TDs in a week 4 game against Brother Rice, broke his collarbone at the very end of that game and has been sitting out ever since. He was very close to returning.
Loyola's blue chip TE, who received a sophomore year offer from Nebraska and offers from Cincinnati, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Bowling Green, sat out the spring and fall seasons with blood clot issues. A tough break for that kid, although his docs have cleared him to play college ball.
Finally, let's not forget that Loyola petitioned to play up from 7A to 8A this year.

Was anyone here at the Byron game on Saturday in Elmhurst?
I was just watching film of the two point conversion by Byron to win the game.
I'm not trying to start anything, I'm happy Byron won, but that was a 50/50 call on that runner getting over the goal line before he was down. I don't know if it was really that close, or just a bad angle from which I saw the replay?
