Morton...and the RB from Morton
Morton was 7-2 during the regular season but have advanced to the 5a semis. They have a RB named Seth Glatz who now has 334 carries for 3,064 yards and 45 touchdowns on the season. The SEASON. Glatz has 1,059 yards & 16 TDs in three playoff games.
Did anyone see this coming? I had heard that Morton was "good" this year, but not THIS good.

And he is almost as good on the defensive side of the ball. Kid literally never comes off the field.

IIRC Dergo was power. This kid is more speed. DGMW he will lower the shoulder and bang, but he's looking to run around you first.

Re: Morton...and the RB from Morton
Funny you should ask. From Wednesday's PJStar:
PJSTar article wrote:“(My recruiting) just started to kick up,” Glatz told the Journal Star on Tuesday. “I’ve been talking to North Dakota State, Southern Illinois, Miami of Ohio, Missouri State and then just a bunch of other like big NAIA, Division II schools.”
As of Tuesday night, one football team — Missouri Baptist University, an NAIA program — had offered the Illinois High School Coaches Association all-stater a scholarship.

here's the link to the whole article: https://www.pjstar.com/story/sports/high-school/football/2021/11/17/ihsa-football-no-division-program-has-offered-morton-rb-seth-glatz/8639019002/
i am NOT a recruiting guru, so take this for what it's worth. from what i have seen on video, he does not have "elite" speed or size for the D1 level. he looks like a prototypical D2 or D3 kid to me.

I know week 1 non conference games are hard to gauge, but how did LP beat Morton in week 1?
The only 7 pts LP scored in 2 games vs Morris was a 98yd fumble return for a TD. Players might of been sitting out?

Re: Morton...and the RB from Morton
Mr glatz is a bonafide stud. Watched both last two games and he is great at point of contact and just gets yards. Rarely looses yards on a play, for not being huge, I am very surprised how he just keeps moving forward. Good lateral movement and gets north to south quickly. Makes alot tacklers of miss or slip off for not being super elusive.
#56 on Morton also caught my eye as a really good player. #17 wasnt used much against Morris but also looked talented.
Now as a Morris homer I will inject, I think Morris was the more talented team and wins that game 8/9x out of 10. But all credit to Morton that did exactly what they wanted to, when they wanted to, they did it well, well coached and fought hard til the end. Morris just picked the wrong game to make turnovers and somehow couldn't accidently attempt to make a defensive adjustment.
I will be rooting for the potters going forward.
As far as glatz vs dergo. They are similarities but dergo is still another level. Dergo wasnt really a bruiser, and he was suprisingly fast. He ran between the tackles but he had D10 doozers making blocks for him 30 yards down field. Dergo had the best vision ive ever seen from a runner and if you got him to the LOS he got you 5 yars, and if you got him 5 yards he probably got you a touchdown. He was kicked alot of extras points as well as returned kicks. The main thing about dergo was his refusal to lose. He was that guy that no matter what he was gonna come out on top. Dergo teams didnt lose two games his senior year regular season and he had herculean effort to win against a nationally ranked team on a winning streak and going for their 3rd title. That is nothing against Glatz, as mentioned he is an amazing player... he just isnt Dergo, in my biased opinion. Morton winning state would be an awesome story though and would add to that.

Special player for sure. I did not think a single player could beat our defense - he did. 5A seems wide open - Morton has a shot for sure.
ging is absolutely right - he is lacking in top end speed for division one. 5' 10", 185 lbs. players need blazing speed to get recruited.
I also agree with Wilky - turnovers absolutely killed Morris. We just couldn't tackle the kid.

Sounds like a tough task for the Kays but I see the Darkside Defense getting enough stops to get to NIU. Go Kays!

Re: Morton...and the RB from Morton
i saw an interview he did for a pow award. seems like a shy, humble kid.
his highlight video shows he seems to see cutback lanes very well, elusive, really makes people miss. what would his 40 time need to be to play that position at the D1 level? 4.4 at least? his twitter says he runs a 4.5. who knows if that's legit.

Re: Morton...and the RB from Morton
by all accounts he is an excellent player, student, and person. and with the numbers he's putting up and morton getting to the semis (and maybe beyond), he will be remembered for years to come. if this is the peak of his football career, he has done better than 99.99% of all the players ever to have suited up.

Re: Morton...and the RB from Morton
Kankakee bottled him up most of the night he did have 186 yards on 37 carries but id estimate 60+ came on the final drive with the game well out of reach. He did take the reverse on their first kick return 95 yards to the house but the Kankakee defense was all over the place they did a great job on him.
