1. do you take 4 pennies from the change cup? or do you run back out to your vehicle for the change?

2. how much change would be your limit if there's a bunch of coins in the cup?

3. do you leave your change in the cup when you get some back? pennies only? or dimes, nickels and quarters as well?

2. Id say under 20 cents is the absolute limit but usually 5 cents or less.

3. Ill leave anything less than 25 cents in the cup alot of the time

I only put my pennies I have in the cup, and I only take out pennies to get to the last digit in the sales total (never more than nine cents).

I'm not leaving any silver money in that cup. Those sales clerks clean out all the silver coins at the end of their shift. I save all my silver to give to pedophiles.

Former gas station employee here (11 years).

There's really no "penny dish etiquette." If it's in the dish, it's in play. That's why there's a dish. 4 cents, 14 cents, 44 cents, whatever. The customer behind you isn't going to give a damn. Many times I've taken coins from the dish myself just to round a customer's change when the situation calls for it, even if the total was $7.54, would you rather have 46 cents or two quarters back? Beats having to hold the transaction and keeps the line flowing. There are customers, though, like an Aunt of mine, that do not want their change rounded in such a way; they want the 99 cents to put in a change jar for "fun money."

I've never felt upset if someone clears a change dish, they're doing it because they need to do it. I've never had a customer that clears a change dish to be a jerk.
