Brackets look familiar
Seems in some cases the IHSA took last year's bracket and copied and pasted. THE Valley gets Dixon rd 1 with winner getting EIC again. Syco gets Montini rd 2 again. One who definitely isn't copied is Sterling bracketed with 7 Chicagoland schools! St Rita an 8 and Hillcrest a 4? FO!

The IHSA does not control "seeds".

Re: Brackets look familiar
They are "seeded" for geographical reasons in the post-season correct? Is this a preview of the "district" proposal tho I can't see how Sterling would be excluded from Rockford, Sycamore etc instead of included with schools 100 miles away.

Re: Brackets look familiar
how do you figure. they can 1-32, 2-16 halves or quads. I know they technically have travel guidelines they go by but they have been very lose with those and more specifically who is south of who. cause often times there are teams that are geographically north that get put into a southern bracket.
i am not implying the ihsa fixes playoffs. they would mess it up. but i certainly think they have leeway based on how many #1s in a bracket, and who is east, west, north, south of someone else.
their rules are consistant for seeding once the bracket type is established.

The seeding rules are set in stone.
They are based on wins and losses and "playoff points" to break ties. I agree that there is leeway in drawing the geographic lines but once that is done seeding is just math.

agree teetime.
kind of a case in point. if you looked at 6a bracket. There is 3 9-0 teams in the south side, and the #1 seed in the north is 8-1. thats mildly peculiar imo. im not saying it is "rigged", but interesting that morgan park is south and kaneland is north. even if kaneland is further north on a map, chicago morgan park to east st louis is a trip.

according to the bracket analysis show, only classes 1-6 are halves/quads and 7-8a are true 1-32 seeded. I 100% think they try to fix brackets. No way in hell do Sterling, Rita, GS and Hillcrest belong in the same quad. Sterling got some good draws the past two years but they got hammered this year. Marian will be no joke either in 1st round.

you might be thinking of another Marian. the one SHS plays is from Chicago Heights, not Woodstock.

I'm aware Ging. St Rita only beat them 21-0.

Re: Brackets look familiar
Once the IHSA determines what the bracket will look like- quads, 2 16 team halves, 1-32, etc- seeds are purely determined by wins and points (say 2 8-1s are broken by power points, or how many playoff teams you beat). After they determine the bracket style, what number seed a team gets is entirely out of their hands. It's based all on numbers.

Re: Brackets look familiar
I see no evidence of a conspiracy here. Also, I don’t think they do “quads” anymore. Brackets are 1-16 north south or 1-32 for largest classes.
If the gripe is that across the board 1-32 should be used, that’s debatable.

ugh, cell phone with no cheaters! Good catch. Still think this will be their toughest game of the year before St. Rita anyway!

Sterling will destroy Marian Catholic. Marian would be 2-7 or 3-6 with Sterling's schedule

Sterling might be 7-2 with Marian's schedule! WB6 was weaker than ncic or NIB12.

from what i saw this year, the wb6 is a better league than the nib12 west division or either ncic division. the teams in the wb6 are deeper and more athletic.
i also think the nib12 east division was better than the wb6. again, based only on what i saw this year in the wb6.

HI is right, the state does not control the seeds. I think playoff brackets are going to start looking more similar year to year as the RICH GET RICHER and the POOR GET POORER. I say that because looking at the ScoreZone this season, there seemed to be a lot more blowouts than usual.
in our conference alone the winners outscored the opponents 1019 - 243 and we had 5 teams qualify for playoffs. In my honest opinion, I saw 4 at the beginning of the year but one team sneaked in due to an upset.
I think this is something we will be seeing more and more where good teams are able to maintain a certain level of goodness only because the bad team are not going to to be able to improve to a competitive level as others.

Re: Brackets look familiar
So I'm watching the first qtr and Marian is going north and south, and north again, running almost at will. 6 mins later sterling hills and maybe 5 plays later score on a long run. Marian answers back with a 55-60 yd run to make it 7-6. Sterling breaks off another 50+ yd run to the 1 and gets it in for 14-6 lead with a couple mins left. I'm out at the bar ignoring friends as this was going to be a tough game like I envisioned. I check back around 845ish and it's 49-6 at half! What the flip happened?
