Kenny didn't write many of his own songs. He admired Ritchie and reached out to him, asking him to write him a song. Ritchie wasn't really keen on the idea because of the difference in genres so he said he was too busy. So Kenny told him, "That's too bad. When I release a single, it usually sells about 250,000 copies."

So Ritchie says, "Ok...when do you need the song?" Rogers says, "Saturday". So Ritchie writes "Lady" in about 4 days and it ends up selling 500,000 copies.

Ritchie later moved in with Kenny and lived at his house. Ritchie credits Rogers with jump-starting his solo career.
