a sad day in jacksonville, il.....
macmurray announced their closing at the end of this semester. it's been coming for months now.
i feel sorry for all the kids, faculty and coaches. i especially feel sorry for coach douglass who's done an incredible job of bringing hundreds of kids on campus there. many of them that hadn't heard of mac or jacksonville, il.
while only around 700 kids attend there, the economic impact on jacksonville will hit hard.
lastly, they had an incredible asl program that's helped out at isd and all over the world. i have had many friends who've went there and do interpretation for a living.

That is sad news. My son is attending greenville next fall, they’re a conference opponent. Their coaches were always class guys whenever they visited our school to recruit. Tough deal for sure.

I'm out of the loop on Jville news now and was blown away by this. No one I've coached directly but several kids from the West Hancock basketball and football programs have played there over the last several years.

I was completely floored to find out
1. Cat Zingano went to school there and
2. She wrestled there with a girl I coached at Mahomet- Mary Kelly

I coached at MacMurray the first two years of Mike Hensley's tenure. I learned a lot and had fun. One of my ex-players, Mike Gunter (Safeties coach at IWU), started his coaching career there. Had some ex-players play there. None of them spoke an ill word about MacMurray.

Did this come as a big surprise? My kid is a senior. He was getting recruiting literature from the football program as recently as a month ago.
Are other D3 schools in similar situations?
What's going to happen to the facilities at the school?

andy ezard, mayor, is looking into doing some things with the campus. gym is nice. lots of weddings take place at the chapel. the dining hall has a lot of community functions in it.
routt could have their own football field if details could get worked out. brand new video board was purchased before the season too.
dorms are ratholes though.
