School closings...

Our last full day of school was January 11th. We are out tomorrow and Wednesday at the least. Many schools in the area have cancelled through Thursday. I can't remember a year in which we have had so many weather-related early-outs and cancellations in such a short time period.

We were out last Tuesday and Friday. We missed a couple days in December due to a water issue. I sincerely doubt we go Wednesday and Thursday. Tomorrow is 50/50 right now I'd say. A lot of schools in eastern Illinois have already called off.

Last Tuesday I had gotten up and ran at 530 before I got the call at 619. If we don't go tomorrow it will probably be the same.

We've been fortunate, relatively speaking. We started school the 7th and have had two cancellations and a two-hour delay since then. The West Hancock schools right across the river from me have actually been in session 4-5 times since they resumed after Christmas break and they actually started the 3rd.

I was quite surprised that school was cancelled today, given all the missed days and early outs last week. Dixon pulled the trigger around 4pm yesterday and that pretty much opened up the floodgates for all the other schools in the Sauk Valley cancelling today and tomorrow and even Thursday in a couple cases.

Looking at the temperatures predicted for Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, I will be surprised if we are in school Thursday.

We are at 5 weather days and 2 early outs already this year.

After you miss 5 days, you don't have to make them up, so it always surprises me that more people don't miss more days.

I have to work every damn day.

We're an "hours based" school calendar here in Iowa, at least my district is. We're already into having to tack on days at the end of the year, even if we use our snow makeup day in February. In addition to what I posted above, we also had a cancellation and a late start in November the week after Thanksgiving.

Morris was out yesterday, in today, but I'm guessing we'll be out Wed & Thurs.

We're apparently out at 2. Which makes no sense because it's not going to be any colder at 315 when we normally get out than it is at 2, but that's why I don't make $185,000.

I also enjoy trying to carry on your day after they make that announcement. I get why you have to make it now, but you may as well let out now, because the rest of the day is going to be a complete shit show.

My kids were out yesterday because of the snow (probably could have been a late start, but oh well). They are in school today.

The district hasn't cancelled tomorrow yet, and I have no idea why. I understand needing to wait until last minute for snow (cancelled yesterday at 5:20am) or maybe/maybe not temperatures, but for basically a week it's been obvious that tomorrow will be historically cold. make it official. Even CPS has already cancelled, and they never cancel.

Thursday morning will actually be a few degrees colder than tomorrow morning, so I would guess that will get cancelled too?

1 Day of school for Newman this week on Friday and it is only a 1/2 day. There will be some unhappy kids/teachers come end of school

Isn't that the truth!!! Once the announcement is made, you can't get crap out of them for anything. They want to text anyone & everyone, chug pop, and play Fortnite or whatever dumb game they've hacked working around the school's filter. Oh wait, that's everyday.... It's amazing how excited they get that they get to go home only to continue their epic non-productivity.

30 below with wind chill today and maybe half of our junior high kids wore a coat. Everyone just wears a Hoodie.

Just got the call. We are out again tomorrow, which is not surprising given that it is supposed to be -31 at 7am. Assuming that we have school Friday, it will be our first full day of school in two weeks.

According to weather.com, it is supposed to be -34 tomorrow morning at 7am. That is actual temperature on the thermometer. Looks like it will get warmer in the afternoon but the wind is going to pick up so it will still be really cold.
