As a conservative, if they shove through a justice right now, they deserve any criticism they get. It should also cost them the presidency

I think there will be at least three republican senators that agree with HI and see that this strategy would rip the country apart.

I’ll guess Lisa Murkawski, Mitt Romney and Lamar Alexander.

Maybe Susan Collins, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

True, COVID19 has been the hot topic for months. Now the media has a big new story. It's going to be a big fight with enormous pressure being put on moderate GOP Senators such as Collins and Murkowski. My guess is that Trump will look upon it as part of his legacy to put another right leaning Justice on the bench before leaving office. I saw a poll a couple weeks ago showing Susan Collins trailing by 4 points in her reelection bid. My thinking is voting against Trump's appointee helps her cause.

Mitch has the votes and he is going to do it. Here's what he is going to do - he will solicit a nominee from Trump, but hold off on confirmation hearings until after the election. That will accomplish two things -
1. A few vulnerable Republican senators will not have to make a tough vote right before the election; and
2. Fire up Trump's base for the election.

If Republicans lose - they still have plenty of time and votes to get a justice through during the lame duck session.

If a lameduck confirmation happens we will have a new Midnight Judge as per the election of 1800 and Marbury v. Madison.

RBG was an example of wit, grace, and intelligence and will be missed. I always thought her friendship with Justice Scalia was one of the great models for our age.

If Kelly beats the appointed senator McSally in Arizona he will be seated almost immediately because that is a “special election” to fill the seat of a John McCain. That might mean that the republicans can only lose three votes after the election. I think there will be six or seven Republicans that won’t vote for a justice in the lame duck session.
