1. They need to find who is funding this crap and hang them from their private parts.

2. They called up a guy from our TACT team last night to go help in Chicago. I have no idea why just one, but they armed him and sent him in an unmarked vehicle. He's not the commander and he's not a squad leader so I don't know why he got chosen. He has tried out for the TRT (Tactical Response Team), which is a statewide IDOC organization, so maybe they just needed those bodies.

As are all "common sense" gun laws.

I was just told it was both Farm & Home, Kohls, Dicks, and 6th Street Walmart.

I don't know which one. I'm concerned about what these criminals might do with those stolen guns. I know a couple young police officers here in Springfield who have families who are putting themselves in danger every night since this started. Now I know that some of the bad guys have weapons.
I'm also concerned that their actions are going to set back some of the progress that has been made in race relations in the last 10-20 years. I can take some comfort in knowing that most people, black and white, are good people.

I agree with you 100%. My son-in-law and a guy I coach with are State Troopers in District 9. My daughter is really on edge right now.

I had heard that there were about 15 protesters in the Dick's store but hadn't heard about the other stores you mentioned. I just heard that the Mayor isn't going to invoke a curfew at this time but that order is only as good as the enforcement capability anyway. Our Governor has made threats in recent weeks towards business owners who opened up their businesses before we got to phase 3. Maybe he could call up the National Guard to provide more security in cities who need it too.

Starship Billiards in Decatur- a bar/restaurant/pool hall- actually decently upscale, for a pool hall, with decent food- was burned last night. There were other incidents at Best Buy, a cell phone place and one other I can't remember.

As I drove to work there was police officer parked directly in front of the doors of Target.

On March 26th I wrote this about the lockdowns-
This could be an extremely destabilizing event. Besides disease, you're talking economic depression, protests, the widening of the already chasm like political gap and a potential movement for new forms of governance. Most people already are dissatisfied with our form now- on one side or the other (look at the recent successes of socialists)- put people in poverty and this whole thing could crumble pretty quick.
Obviously the protests/riots were not started by COVID, but I don't think anyone would disagree that it has played a role.

I watched those protests and the criminals that were scattered into those groups, it was hard for me to see any groups that were “funded”. Were some well equipped or passing around money to enlist the help of other criminals? I hadn’t heard anything about that.

I completely understand the protests but the looting and rioting is unacceptable. The South and West side of Chicago has neighborhoods that have come a long way in the past few years and now have stores that employ members of those communities, after the past few days, those stores may never open again and creating more economic issues for the folks in those communities.

A newscaster said on Fox Chicago last night that when people see young black males breaking into these stores and stealing, it does not help change the perception this group of individuals. The actions of a few does not warrant the poor treatment or ill perception of the many.

In Kankakee area there was a large moving protest form downtown Kankakee to Bourbonnais, where most of the shoppers is, and it was led by police, community members handed out water and showed their support. It was 100% peaceful and showed unity within the community, but many businesses closed out of fear of what may happen, which was a result of what was happening in Chicago. The mall in Champaign was looted because of a Facebook post encouraging people to show up there. No protest ever occurred.

Did the newscaster say all of that or just the first sentence?

I ask because that first sentence assumes that "people" perceive young black men as thieves and looters. I don't think of them that way, but I'm sure some do. I'm also fairly certain (but I'm guessing) that for most young black men...they couldn't care less what I think of them. They don't live their lives attempting to change my perception of them.

Some places of business in Springfield that recently opened are closed today because of the looting that took place last night. There are a lot of options out there to send money to support the protesters for those interested. Wink

This is what I mentioned in one of my posts last night. I am concerned that this could be a setback to the progress we've made in race relations in the last couple of decades. The two people they showed on the news last night running out of the Old Navy store with armfuls of clothes weren't black men but black women. I think there were a few white women among the crowd of looters too.

Closing in on 2 million COVID cases nationwide. 106,000 deaths. Our cities are being looted and burned.

Good thing we are making America great again, or else I would be very worried.

Trump has seemed pretty salty lately. He's probably seeing the same polls I'm looking at. He isn't saying much that's helpful to our current situation.
