Generally not a good idea to use the word Hitler in any context.

Re: Last Chance U coach
Just a little history perspective- Hitler has been used as a source of comedy from his rise to power in the 30s to the present day. He and his creation- the Nazi party- have been lampooned and used in jokes repeatedly for 80 years. It's only been about the past 10-15 years people have started treating him like he was the historic reincarnation of Satan.Coach53 wrote:19delta wrote:OSUBucks wrote:Generally not a good idea to use the word Hitler in any context.

Yes, I'm sure Mel Brooks hates Nazi comedy. That's why he wrote a song called Springtime for Hitler. PS- Brooks is from a Jewish family from Germany.Coach53 wrote:Last I checked none of you were comedians...or Mel Brooks.
You have to be one of those things to know something about them? I mean, I'm not a Roman, but I know a lot about them.

Re: Last Chance U coach
to me, the problem is the context with which the coach used the name "hitler". he used it as a threat. not as a joke.

Yep, that's how I took it. As for Mel Brooks I thought Blazing Saddles was a hoot but other than than I wasn't impressed by most of his other movies and didn't find them particularly funny. How many on here enjoyed Robin Hood: Men in Tights?

Prince John:
Such an unusual name, "Latrine." How did your family come by it?
Latrine:
We changed it in the 9th century.
Prince John:
You mean you changed it TO "Latrine"?
Latrine:
Yeah. Used to be "Shithouse."
Prince John:
It's a good change. That's a good change!

Young Frankenstein - "What knockers!" "Thank you Herr Doctor"
Blazing Saddles - "We will pull a number 6 on them"
I always enjoyed Mel Brooks movies. He ripped into every one. You watch the old B westerns, old horror movies from the '30's then watch Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein it is a hoot. When I first saw the Producers and when they did "Springtime for Hitler", It was WTF, I it took brass ones to do it. Mel Brooks could not make movies anymore because some people could not handle it. Brooks, Dangerfield, Rickles, Carson , Murphy, were good because they went after everyone with equal enthusiasm. I taped the "High and the Mighty" with John Wayne the other night so I can then watch "Airplane" and appreciate what the Abraham brothers were making fun of.
Last U coach - did not like his coaching style, I know he had a rough clientele, I felt he was one the line. References about Hitler, blackface, picking cotton, slavery are probably not good ideas. A. tennis coach in Springfield made a idiotic statement about Jews to his players (one who was Jewish), Did not get fired until last season, but the school lost one of its biggest donors/boosters (the Jewish kid's parents) until he was fired.
