Illini make Decision on Lovie
The Illini extend Lovie for 2 more more years having him under contract thru 2023. I'm not saying they should have fired him, you really need to give a guy at least 4 recruiting classes IMO but 5 more years I'm mildly surprised.
On another note I just saw former SHG and Illinois grad Malik Turner make his 1st NFL catch for Seattle.

I still don't know that Lovie is the guy for Illinois particularly, but I definitely know that firing him wasn't going to change the program in the next 5 years.

Re: Illini make Decision on Lovie
The problems with the UofI go much further than Lovie. I would hope that there was a restructuring of his contract that may make it easier/cheaper to get rid of him after 1 - 2 years.
Either way, not a huge fan of Lovie but other than the Iowa debacle, the Illni did make some small strides from last season. Maybe the experience by the younger players will pay off in the next few years but each season they don't have some success is another season they will lose out on recruits that can contribute right away.

If not Lovie, then whom?
The last time U of I fired a coach with any kind of name recognition, the best they could do was settle for some guy who was slightly better than .500 coaching at a MAC school and isn't even in college football any more.

I'm so disillusioned with Illinois football. I'm not even sure if they resurrected Bear Bryant or Vince Lombardi they'd be able to turn anything around
