2018 HOF class: Jerry Kramer

Post by 19delta on Thu Aug 02, 2018 10:16 pm

I honestly was shocked that Jerry Kramer was not already in the HOF. Kramer was a key member of two Super Bowl teams, a 7x All-Pro and a member of the NFL's All-Decade Team (1960s). And anyone who loves the classic NFL Films documentaries has seen #64 leading Elijah Pitts on Power Sweep countless times. He also wrote one of the first "behind the scenes" books in sports history.

What's the deal with Kramer? Why did it take so long for him to get in?

Way before my time but just looking at what you presented it screams no brainer in my opinion. Maybe he pissed off writers worse than T.O. or something.

Read an article about this a while ago but cannot find it now.

Basically said two things.

Packers were so loaded with HOF candidates that they couldn’t get to everyone in time. Now they wait until they become eligible as “old-timers.”  There are a couple others that probably deserve it also.

Second even though I feel it is the best football book of all time, Instant Replay, it was not well received by all insiders.

That’s pretty petty but I’m glad he is in.
