Decent 4A Schedule

Post by crusader on Wed May 09, 2018 11:54 am

I'm glad to get rid of the Collinsville opener and the Texas closer was too much.

This is what Althoff scheduled next year to prepare for Rochester.

IC Catholic at IL Wesleyan
Vianney (10-2 last year - lost to big school champs, CBC and in the semis)
@ Mater Dei (2-7 ... but they are a close Catholic school)
@ Mt. Vernon (South 7 - 0-9)
@ Centralia (South 7 - 7-3)
Marion (South 7 - 6-4)
@ Carbondale (South 7 - 3-6)
Cahokia (South 7 - 3-6)
Cardinal Ritter (9-2 - lost to Trinity in the second round)

Of course - they are the 20x defending champs or something like that, right?

Well, when you go 7-2 and get them in the 1st round, you'll know if it was worth it. Don't get me wrong, I'm a firm believer in tough scheduling to prepare. It's often better than to go 9-0 against cupcakes and not be prepared in the quarters.

The only thing a team could hope for is a chance to play the sitting kings - regardless of round. If they get knocked out in the first round, you hope they at least landed some haymakers.

Althoff brings back a good part of the OL - but lost nearly 580 pounds between two dudes. But they return a Shields' offspring - too bad he's not as big as Kiki or Norman though.

Both of the starting QBs are back - the junior gunslinger and senior bruiser (6/3 - 228, who also plays WR, FB and DE.)

The D will be STOUT - two sophomore LBs last year pushed out the seniors by the end of the year. The DBs (except one) are returning - the Appleton boy and Alberico, a state-placer in wrestling as a sophomore.

They may not score much - but they may not have to.

We will be better this year than last year, but I'm not sure how good overall. We lose the majority of our linemen which isn't good considering that was already a weak spot. At the skill positions, we progress from being very, very young to simply very young. At least we'll be sophs and juniors this year instead of freshmen and sophomores playing varsity!
