Re: 2017-2018 Head Football Coaching Openings
1. That's a pretty nice job to open up this late in the summer.
2. The timing of that makes it seem a little fishier than maybe it is.
3. I doubt it will be a long search.
4. And congratulations on a fellow member/poster on your new job. (Half sarcasm/half early call.)

1. I agree its a nice job to open up especially this late in the game.
2. Said the same thing on IHSS. He has been with the program almost 30 years in one way or another just doesnt seem to be a move someone like that would do no matter how frustrated he was with things.
3. Quick hire
4. If Big Tex isnt interested I could see Hud doing AD/HFC on the interim basis for this season.

I had forgotten he's there now. That wouldn't surprise me in the least. The decision also seems a little less fishy to me. I could see that not being a good relationship.Bighitter11 wrote:

The exile- at least in the case of Bobby- of the Moews family from CC seems odd to me. I guess chalk it up to changes in society, or what people expect from coaches, or what, but it's certainly odd.

Re: 2017-2018 Head Football Coaching Openings
I’m still alive and working.... well all practices are canceled but I think I’m still employed! As of last night I believe I’m the last staffer left. We were down to a couple when the HC called me and said he was called into the school for a impromptu meeting and he’d grab me some bags for my backers while inside.... then something went south and I woke up alone. But that’s not unusual for me!
I am seriously going to write a book on this one!

On the one hand, this is a shocking number. We are rapidly approaching 20% turnover.
On the other hand, long time coaches at the same school are increasingly rare. There are new pressures on coaches, and I don't think I'm just an old man complaining.
I am in a relatively good situation at a very solid district, and the job certainly is not getting easier for me. Quite the opposite.
I'm not alone. I have discussed this topic with numerous long-time coaches and I would venture to say, even those at the highest level of success, agree with me.
I used to kind of laugh at coaches that bounced from job-to-job, but honestly, they may have the current environment figured out.
It's pretty clear this trend is going to continue.

Doesn't the same thing happen with superintendents? Take a good gig, work it as well as you are able. Five years later you have pissed off enough people doing what you thought was the right thing and then move on.

Thanks coach. Since my entire staff can all sit on one toilet all at once there should be no miscommunications!
If anyone knows of good, available assistants please share!
p.s. once I get some help we want try to sit on the toilet together anymore!

There's a reason even the president can only stay 8 years. (besides the whole Constitution thing) Very rare to find a district lifer. I spent 16 years in one district fulfilling many roles. At some point, you just look for other challenges.

I'm fairly confident administrative turnover is even higher than coaching, at least based on what I've seen in my years in Iowa.

Is this the latest opening in recent history? Didn't Charleston have a coach quit on the first day a few years ago?

BigHitter can speak with more authority on this than I can, but late moves are pretty common.dusty7 wrote:Is this the latest opening in recent history?

Re: 2017-2018 Head Football Coaching Openings
Late Coaching Changes def isnt shocking news anymore these days. Dusty is correct about the Charleston Coach stepping away on the 1st day or near so just a few years ago. Last year Rockford Jefferson got rid of their coach just 5 days before the season was to start.
You always feel just awful for the kids in these situations they are the ones put in the unfair situation.

Brought the opening up to the Mrs and her expression threatened physical violence. All she verbally said was "I'm not moving again."
If it were on the other side of Springfield? Maybe. I also know that at one point, maybe only for a few days, maybe longer, I wasn't a real popular person in New Berlin. Shocking I know.
