8-man football

Post by 19delta on Fri Jan 26, 2018 5:16 pm

Polo High School has announced that 2018 will be their last year playing 11-man football. In 2019, they will play 8-man football:

There is a good possibility of Aquin also dropping out of the conference to play 8-man football and Warren High School is looking at a possible co-op with a school in Wisconsin.

EIther way, the NUIC will most likely look very different after next year.

Iowa's largest classification in football is 8-man football with 65 teams.

The 11-man teams are broken down into five classes with 266 teams - the smallest classification has 62 teams - the largest classification (4A - no idea why, but Iowa goes A, 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A), has 42 teams.

Last season was my sixth coaching in Iowa...and the first where I realized "A" and "1A" were indeed two different classes...
