We go through Friday, although for students I think Friday is an 11:45 dismissal. Back to school January 4th...while this would obviously tack on a couple days at the end, I wish we just had all the way until the 8th off...

My kids are in school all week, but then don't go back until the 8th.

The Sunday or Monday Christmas works great for us. Can stick around to have local family Christmas Eve/Christmas, and still have a full +/-10 day family vacation after without the kids missing any school.

I don't mind it - set-up google classroom for the semester classes, distribute syllabi, give out texts, cover expectations. Hit the ground running on Monday. There are a lot of things I don't like about our school schedule, but I've grown to appreciate this decision over the past few years.

I get to take off the afternoon of the 25th.

Mr. Cratchet insists I work that morning. Every other day is a work day.

I leave my office on 12/22 and return 1/2 - can't remember the last time I took off 10 days in a row. I'm only using one vacation day (and three bereavement days) leaving me with 13.5 vacation days that I get to cash in at full pay.

Complete side observation- when did wearing Christmas become a 2 week event for female school employees? This seems like a last 2 years phenomenon to me.

I'm not a teacher, but just from the perspective of a parent trying to schedule our vacation, if my kids had school that week only on the 5th, they would be absent. That one day of class (where probably not a lot of productive work is being done?), kills basically half a week of vacation.

I hear you.

From my perspective, we would take a lot fewer days off during the school year and have more summer vacation.
