It would be neat for a small town newspaper (Pantagraph, News-Gazette, etc) do do one on smaller school teams.

Using the same parameters as the Tribune article (undefeated, state championship winning teams):

The 1999 Byron Tigers (3a) were 14-0 and featured Sean Considine, who had a pretty decent 8-year career in the NFL that included a Super Bowl ring.

One of my best friends in college was a Byron graduate. Went to every playoff game with him that year. Really fun team to watch.

Was living in TN at the time and came home to watch SJO get DISMANTLED in that game. Woof. That Byron team was the real deal. There were other really good kids besides Considine on that team, as well. I think the QB that year is now their HC?

Their FB was a ton. Kotter.

They’ve recently went viral with their Hog trailer bit. Saw one person comment that that was probably a real “culture” changer for them. It might have been. Whenever they started doing it prior to 1994.

Having Considine on a 3a football team almost wasn't fair. It was like the bullet-time special effects in "The Matrix".

The team around him was really good too. Probably a quarterfinal/semifinal team without him. He was the double cherry with whipped cream on top.

Saw that team a little too up close and personal.

Sean Considine:  Halfback/safety. Stud. Now DC for Byron.
Jeff Boyer:  very good QB and now a terrific head coach.
Mark Cotter:  FB/LB. outstanding high school football player.

Their wing back (basically their 4th threat) would be the poster boy for most high school football teams. Matt Meline.

Line and defense was outstanding.

That team and the 2000 Harrisburg juggernaut were best teams we ever played.
