For the second consecutive season

Post by mc140 on Wed Oct 18, 2017 12:27 am

One of our Senior DL plays on Friday, quits on Monday, and is on the cheer leading team for our game the following week. Sure we could have made an issue of it and prevented them from cheering until basketball season, but why bother?

Wow...we had a kid--senior captain nonetheless--produce a note two weeks ago that he had mono and was out for a week...and no one heard a word from him again until he apparently made an appearance at basketball open gym Monday night. I thought that was bad enough...

So about 4 years ago we got a new cheer leading coach. She (correctly) figured the best path to success in IHSA competition season was through a coed team. She started recruiting guys and we have had 4 football players in total cheer in the winter since she became coach including our middle linebacker last season. Last year's kid was a surprise tap out. When he quit, the most recent quitter took his spot in the lineup. Our junior class is the most talented group our school has seen in 25 years. When I saw he got beat out by a junior and was playing primarily special teams, I figured it was just a matter of time before he left to.

What kind of perks is she handing out to get these guys?

Exactly!

What teenage boy wouldn't rather sit the bench in football than hold a smoking hot little cheerleader up over his head with his hand on her underwear.

I was thinking more along the lines of what is the coach personally doing to entice them...

Playing time trumps all, particularly with Seniors.

We could be 13-0 and wouldn't surprise me in the least to see a kid quit the week of the state championship over playing time.

A few years ago a team by us made the state finals and one of their starting receivers was openly bitching to friends it was cutting into basketball practice and games.

Overheard a kid in 13 the week of the quarterfinals tell another kid on our team he hoped we didn't win because "Dekalb was too far away to have to travel" for the state championship...

A few years ago at our playoff bracket get together we got a tough first round draw.

One of our senior linebacker say, "Well, wrestling starts on time this year."

I thought my DC was going to strangle the kid.
