You honestly probably know more about the Cubs than I do...I'll admit I have absolutely no clue who Ty Griffin is!

Schwarber has only played in 135 MLB games thus far in his career. I too wonder if they should have traded him at some point last year but this just reeks of the laughable Cub hating BS by the usual suspects. I understand though. Jokes about curses, goats, black cats, & Bartmans expired last November so the haters have to double down in their efforts. It's amusing Laughing

Hey, a blind squirrel can apparently find a nut once a century.

PS- all the things you posted weren't jokes made by non Cubs fans. They were all things celebrated by your brethren. I, along with most non Cubs fans, realized they were just a shitty franchise marketing themselves as lovable losers who played in the world's biggest outdoor bar.

Griffin was touted as the replacement for Sandberg.

Per your own link, Griffin was the 22nd rated prospect by Baseball America. So, the "hype" was not strictly coming from the Cubs organization. That is what's always confused me about some of the things you rant about: you take things that are commonly done, yet try to paint them as specific to whatever cause or organization you don't like. Here, it's the "hyping" of prospects, something almost literally every pro sports organization does, yet you're trying to fit it into your anti-Cubs narrative.

The root of the matter is, as garret correctly identified, is that you were just itching to make an anti-Cubs post and haven't had much material to go on the last three years. Hence, the reason you pounced on Schwarber's demotion yet are conveniently not mentioning the "hyped" Cubs prospects that are flourishing right now.

I "pounced" on the Schwarber thing because I was called everything in the book for suggesting they trade him last fall for pitching help.  Every thing I said could happen if they didn't has happened.  Your pitching staff is showing their age/reverting to career averages and you demoted a guy hitting 171 that could have helped your pitching staff by at least bringing #3 and middle reliever. God knows that couldn't help them right now.

It was more or less a "look, I was right again" thread.

He's NOT a defensive only catcher.

The Cubs peeps know in infinite amount more about baseball talent than Head Skin. They have the World Series hardware on display up there just in case you want to check it out.

He is a Jim Thome in training.

Kenny Williams won a WS too.  How's that worked long term for the Sox?

Oh ya, he traded for Jim Thome...

PS- in his second season in the league Thome hit 314 with 25 home runs and 73 RBIs.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/thomeji01.shtml

That doesn't look like his second season to me.

I'm not sure shwarbs even has 162 major league games yet.

I trust the Cub hierarchy. They have a track record. If they decide to trade the kid....I'll be OK with that also.

Lots of hall of farmers got sent down after 100 big league games. Are you counting the four games he played in 2016 as a season?

Just a thought, in his second season in the Majors Willie Mays only hit .236.

Which is still 60 pts higher and provided gold glove defense and excellent speed...

Willie Stargell was a September call up in 1962. He never played another minor league game.

The same for Tony Perez although not in 1962.

I have to lift now, so I'll look up the rest later, but did you just randomly pull names out of a hat? So far none of those three were sent to the minors after breaking spring training with the MLB club.

56 and 57 he was a September call up. Here's an interesting article on Robinsons 1959 season.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/cooperstownersincanada.com/2010/09/21/brooks-robinson%25E2%2580%2599s-career-almost-ended-in-vancouver/amp/

As far as Schwarber- I don't know. I know his regular season was non existent, but he did play in a world series. That's gotta be more experience for someone than being a 30 game September call up. Besides, without that World Series performance, I REALLY don't know what there is about his game that would excite Cubs fans so much.

.

So Robinson had a shortened season in order to fulfill his military obligation and when he came back he had lost his edge.

That resulted in his being sent down.

Those circumstances remind me of what happened to Schwarber.

He had 25 at bats in 59 before being sent down. He was never supposed to break with the big club but did because of an injury to the guy ahead of him.

Oh, and he was the greatest defensive third basemen ever. None of that sounds like schwarber, but hey...

You must not have read the article you posted. He WAS the Orioles starting 3rd baseman in 1958. In 1959 he got beat out by some guy nobody has heard of since and was sent down.

And they didn't know he was the greatest defensive third baseman ever when they sent him down, but hey.....
