Player Count

Post by TexFB on Mon May 15, 2017 12:19 pm

Thought we could share numbers.

I have 58 freshman signed up, and expect 50 to actually stay around.

I have 44 sophs signed up, and expect that to drop to 38.

I have 21 JRs.

And 20 seniors.

This tells me the concussion scare has subsided. You can see the bubble in my varsity classes. Not sure if it's due to the scare, or something else. We lost a lot of "dudes" last year when the coaching transition occurred. Maybe that's it.

Anyway, what's everyone else seeing??

We had 50 at our Sullivan meeting, another 20 at our OV meeting. There are another 20-30 out there that say they're playing. If we have 70 on the first day of practice, I'll be a happy camper.

Is that a trend up?

As of now, 21 freshmen signed up and around 65 in the program. A tiny sophomore class is killing us--I'm guessing we'll have fewer than 10 in that class when we start in the fall. Probably not good for a school of around 600 students total, but we were around 40 total 9-12 when last year ended.

I believe so. I think it's the "new HC" thing. If we can continue the trend up after my first year, it will be more noteworthy.

Sitting at around 60 or so right now. If we can get another 10-15 I will be pleased as punch.

Fort Madison should be up as well. Started with only 26 last year but finished with 38. Hoping for somewhere in the 50s. Terrible for a school of 600+, but hoping some guy from Springfield via Tennessee can create some excitement being the new head coach.

Last year's numbers

The Junior class last year had 8 kids. 6 of them are players 2 are bodies
Soph have the big numbers at 14. 10 of them are players 4 are bodies.
Freshman finished the year last year with 6 kids. 3 of them are players 3 of them are barely bodies.

Incoming freshman numbers look like about 20.

The attitude of the previous staff about not recruiting kids was not effective. I hope we can survive those two really small classes.
