A little surprised at that one, Coach Passolano did a great job up there.
Pretty much doubled the school's playoff appearances in nine year.
i'm surprised too. and from what i understood, a large majority of this year's 8-2 team was returning.

26. Woodstock (4-5)
27. York (1-8 )
List largely stolen from IHSS.
It seems like there are more openings than usual for this time of year.
My impression was that there were a ton of openings at school that had been fairly successful (made playoffs).
After checking records, you can see my impression was incorrect - it was just guys I know it seems. Only 6 out of the current 27 openings are for schools that made the playoffs this season (22%). Over 50% of the open programs were 1-8 or worse this season.

Old Titan,
Very few playoff team coaches are ever let go. Most either retire or choose to move on.
Just goes to show once again, which most of you on here know, "you win, you safe", you don't, look out.
Admins and board more and more think of Public H.S. sports way too much like the D1 level, which is an absolute joke.

Not a surprise. It's an uphill battle there. Good athletes and always seem to have success at F/S level but never seem to get it done at the Varsity level.
Heard rumors of a pretty severe hazing incident over the summer. Wonder if this played in role in him leaving.

Re: 2016-17 Head Football Coaching Openings
I think this going to be a continuing trend. With fewer and fewer teachers coaching and the job becoming harder and harder to do/put up with, I certainly think the days of 20+year coaches has come and gone.Bighitter11 wrote:

That, and everyone acting like HS football is the SEC.

His son, a 6-7 Tackle, is graduating and going to play for Illinois State. I imagine that played a pretty big role in the coach's decision to step down now.

Yes. I would think so, too.
I would add that it was pretty classy of him to step aside now. Next year, EPC should be pretty good. It would have been very easy for him to come back for another year after struggling the past two years. As it stands now, whomever the next HC will be is coming into a pretty good situation. EPC will have a talented senior class. Many of those kids have been starters since their sophomore year. Excepting Lena, most of the rest of the conference will be rebuilding. So, I think it is a pretty attractive job. He definitely is leaving the program on solid footing.

I did not know that info OT. That certainly explains it. I knew they were supposed to be pretty good next year so that is why it seemed odd to me.

Does Rochelle already have a coach in place? Saw they have a SS job open, but it’s listed with assistant varsity and jv coaching. No mention of the HC job being open.

Pretty sure this is an inside job and they have the guy they want. I have not heard a formal announcement yet though.

Heard some rumors that Aquin is considering a move to 8-man football due to declining numbers.

They chuck it around and usually dont have the horses up front to compete with the NUIC Big Dogs. 8 Man might be right up their alley. As program numbers continue to decline I think you will see more and more try 8 man before shutting down their program

Re: 2016-17 Head Football Coaching Openings
I get what you're saying, but they went 9-3 this year and went to a second consecutive quarterfinals. Dropping to 8 man football seems a little rash.Bighitter11 wrote:19delta wrote:Bighitter11 wrote:Twitter says Freeport Aquin is open

Re: 2016-17 Head Football Coaching Openings
I am amazed that Aquin has held on as long as they have with the school enrollment (100 kids).
I can see the NUIC having an 8 man division and an 11 man division in the near future.
Everybody knows all about Lena Winslow, Forreston, Dakota, EPC, Stockton, etc but there are a lot of NUIC schools that struggle also.

The Aquin community is small but really committed to that school. They are good people who always manage to find a way to compete.
