John Jackson
Many of you guys know Coach Jackson. He passed away this weekend. He was the best teacher and coach that I (and lots of other people!) ever had.

One of the things I respected about him the most is that he was not some meathead football coach. While he WAS a terrific football coach and knew his way around the weight room, he was an outstanding teacher. And we had great teachers at Naperville North. But he was the elite of the elite...easily one of the top 5 teachers in the school and was the most popular teacher in the Social Studies department by a wide margin. When I was in high school, he taught several AP classes and was an adviser to the Junior Achievement club. I looked forward to his class every day. He was incredibly well read and could have intelligent discussions about all sorts of topics.
Really sad...58 is way too young.
My sister (another former student of Coach Jackson's) saw this article online and sent it to me. Sums up my feelings about Coach Jackson really well:

Re: John Jackson
Had some great battles with Coach Jackson over the years, always admired him. Godspeed, Coach!
